Product Description

In Overlord II, the new Overlord and a more powerful Minions horde take on the Glorious Empire, an advanced Romanesque nation, in a truly epic yet familiarly warped adventure.

Ever since the events at the end of Overlord: Raising Hell, the Overlord has been absent from the world and, without his firm grip on the kingdom, the lands have being conquered by the Glorious Empire. On the surface, the Glorious Empire is a civilisation driven by righteous politicians and supported with a mighty military force. However, in practice the Empire is decadent, corrupt and dangerous. And if there's one thing the Glorious Empire hates, it's magic and magical beings. The Empire’s Inquisition is on the hunt for anyone who has magical resonance. In the Arctic wastelands, where Yetis roam, lies the snowy town of Nordberg. Here a young lad is singled out by the Inquisition and accused of possessing a magical force (what with him having strange glowing eyes and everything). However, as he is led off, the Empire guards come under attack from a band of strange little leathery, big-eared, yellow-eyed beasts: it’s the Minions! With a rousing cry of “Master” the devilishly charming critters carry the boy off – they’ve found their new Overlord.

After some years of intensive Minion training, step into the now-adult sized boots of the Overlord. Initially it’s a rag-tag band of Minions under his command but off they go, looting, destroying and laying waste to the lands around Nordberg, scoring victories where they can, before setting sights on the lands at the very heart of the Empire. As the Overlord’s powers grow, the secrets of the Empire, and those of his own origins, will be revealed and then it’s time to go Minion maximus on the Empire’s collective ass. Choose how to wield the Overlord’s evil forces. Do they plunder and pillage across the lands, burn cities on a whim in wild acts of destruction? Or do they follow a path of domination, enslaving towns and exerting their will upon the people? Only true despots will be able to make the ultimate choice between being a ‘destructive’ or a ‘dominating’ dark lord.

Product Description

Overlord II is the sequel to the hit warped fantasy action adventure that had players being delightfully despotic. In Overlord 2, a new Overlord and a more powerful army of Minions take on an entire empire in a truly epic adventure, inspired by the rise of the Roman Empire. As the Glorious Empire conquers kingdoms and destroys any sign of magic it finds, it's time to go Minion Maximus and send in the horde. The Minions return smarter, deadlier (and funnier) and are ready to fight in large scale battles that will see their wild pack mentality squaring up to the organized legions of the Glorious Empire. As ever, they'll do anything and everything the Overlord commands of them, especially now that they can run ravage and wreck buildings and scenery. They've also learned how to ride: In Overlord II Minions will be able to mount up and ride wolves and other magical creatures around the landscape and take them into battle, making our band of merry fighters faster and fiercer than ever before.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not only an excellent sequel but an excellent RPG, 30 Jun 2009

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
the first overlord was a good game, sort of like pikmin but with mass genocide and lots of laughs in it, overlord 2 is all of that but on a larger scale, when playing this game everything feels bigger, grander and just more polished than the original from your minions to your mistresses; everything is just better. The original game's main criticism was its camera, this hasnt entirley been fixed for overlord 2 and while it can get in the way at times, the confusion is only very brief and does very little to detract from the overall experience.
In conclusion to not buy this game would be to miss out on a humorous RPG experience, this is the sort of game that everybody wants to play but designers dont make, this game is just pure fun, from start to finish.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic fun RPG with those cute little minions better than ever, 2 July 2009
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Firstly, I'd like to pint out that this game has quite a few new features from the first Overlord game and I'll run through some of them here;

Minions - The same minions are back but this time they're slightly smarter. One of the most notable new features is their ability to ride mounts. Browns - wolves (which come in useful for areas you can't get to and need wolves to jump across) Greens - Spiders (you'll be able to use the spiders to climb walls for those hard to miss secret areas) and Reds - Salamanders (these handy beasts will throw fire in combat while you easily roll them over ramps or run circles around groups of enemies). The mounts work well and are ALOT of fun. My favourites are the salamanders and help alot towards some of the later levels.

Graphics - the graphics in this game have been improved quite a bit. there are three main areas in the game - Nordberg (the cold icy village area) Everlight (jungles, beaches and water area) Empire (the Roman-style areas with guards and temples. There are also some other secret areas and ofcourse your Netherworld Tower which is quite large this time with a heap of stuff to do including upgrading the tower/minions, forging items, pleasing your mistresses and so on. Each area is full of detail and the graphics are quite stuning in parts, I loved the sun light effects in Everlight. The Overlord has improved and the minion mounts all look fantastic. Overall a very good looking game with alot of variety.

Gameplay elemets - You can now control catapults to take out approaching enemies, crush towers and just cause havoc, you get to throw rocks or arrows depending on the type of catapult. Ships - you can now sail ships and rafts in water areas to reach certain out of reach areas and crush other enemy ships. These features I really liked and found that they're fairly easy to use and enjoyable and add a nice mix to the overall game and they're also included in the multiplayer modes.

Overall I think Overlord 2 is a brilliant game with loads of fun and genuinely entertaining humor. The minions are as cute and devilish as ever and with their mounts they are just brilliant. I found the story this time around alot more interesting and the diverse range of areas to explore, many characters, animals and enemies in the game keep you interested throughout.

Multiplayer isn't too bad either with my favourite being the Pirate Plunder and Domination matches. My concerns here are the lack of people online to play with and some of the waiting times when you do actually get a match going. However, I think most people who know the Overlord series know that the multiplayer is just a bit of added fun on top of the lengthy single player experience you get.

I can see why some people find this game frustrating and I did myself in a few parts. The camera and your minions can get mixed up some times making things go a bit crazy, however for the most part, considering just how much there is to control at any given time (your main character, four minion types with marker options and new mounts, 7 powers and your own combat) I think the game doesn't do too bad at making all this manageable and relatively smooth throughout but combined with some challenging boss fights and large areas to explore you will most likely find yourself annoyed at times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Be Evil or Really Evil. It's your choice., 3 Aug 2009
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This game like the first one (Overlord raising hell) is a little gem. It's a mixture of strategy and RPG. You run around lovely little towns with a team of violent gremlins (minions) smashing, looting, murdering and enslaving. Sound dark? Don't worry this game is packed with humour that make your seriously evil deeds much lighter. The graphics are superb and the controls are quite straight forward. The game play itself is quite strategy heavy but at the same time not incredibly challenging which means things can be difficult but you don't spend hours stuck at the same bit.

There are lots of improvements since the first game. Your brown Minions can now act as cavalry by mounting wolves. You can also resurrect your favourite dead minions which I thought was a nice touch.

There are many characters from the first overlord game in Overlord II. Gnarl is still a character but I was gutted that they changed the jester and beating the new one just isn't anywhere near as fun as beating the old one. The one thing that hasn't changed about this game is that it's very, very funny.

This game isn't the kind of thing that you will see at number 1 in any charts. Many people probably wouldn't even think of buying something like this but I would say that you are missing out on a great fun filled game by not giving overlord II a try.
