5.0 out of 5 stars No amount of stars can say how good this is, 15 Jun 2009

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Bleach - Series 3 Part 2 [DVD] [2004] (DVD)
This volume of the brilliant Bleach anime contains the episodes fifty-four to sixty-three and finishes of the Soul Society story arc. Everything kicks off in this volume with pretty much all the captains releasing their swords to shikai level at least, the rematch between Byakuya and Ichigo and a fight between my two favourite characters from the series Soi Fon and Yoruichi. This volume also includes more of the background for many of the characters including Soi Fon, Yoruichi, Byakuya Kuchiki, Kaname Tosen and Sajin Komamura among others. The plot also comes to a head as the various intrigues and machinations come to a head.

I may be going a bit over the top here but this volume of Bleach is simply one of the best things I have seen in a long time. The ten episodes in this volume include pretty much everything I love about Bleach: great fights, cool weapons, flashy powers and a great plot that finely reveals some of the secrets and conspiracies that have been going on from the beginning of the series.

There are a couple of bad things about this volume as there is now an annoying explanation of the series at the beginning of each episode and the English dub has a couple of annoying things wrong with it (it should be "I will stand atop the Heavens" not "I will stand on at the top"). On the plus side this volume also starts the run of the Bleach omake series between each episode which, although of somewhat mixed quality, are quite funny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Bleach Yet!!, 22 Jun 2009
By Liam R. Gregson (England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Bleach - Series 3 Part 2 [DVD] [2004] (DVD)
This brilliant volume of the Bleach anime finishes off the Soul Society: Rescue story arc and is also the last DVD before two seasons of filler (No!!!). It contains 10 episodes across two discs, episodes 54-63.

This is where I think Bleach really gets good, having a lot of big fights packed into the 10 episodes on the discs. It has the re-match of Ichigo and Byakuya, Yoruichi vs Soi-fon and Yamamoto vs Kyoraku and Ukitake. The ending of the Rescue arc is amazing and you makes you really want to know what happens next.

I watched this set in the English dub, not Japanese with English subtitles. The dub is good as usual. For those watching in Japanese with subtitles, the subtitles are yellow in colour so easily stand out and are readable.

The set contains the following episodes:
54. An Accomplished Oath! Get back, Rukia!
55. The Strongest Shinigami! Ultimate Confrontation Between Teacher and Student
56. Supersonic Battle! Determine the Goddess of Chivalry
57. One thousand cherry blossoms, crushed! Zangetsu Thrusts through the Sky
58. Unseal! The Black Blade, the Miraculous Power
59. Conclusion of the Death Match! White Pride and Black Desire
60. Truth of the Despair, the Dagger that has been Brandished
61. Aizen Stands Out! His Terrifying Ambitions
62. Congress together! The Strongest Shinigami Organisation
63. Rukia's Resolution, Ichigo's Feelings

The extras on the disc are quite poor. You get production artwork on both discs and a textless closing song. You also get the usual manga trailers.

The English set contains two of the American volumes. Here are links to the American volumes, should you wish to buy those instead:
Bleach, Vol. 14 [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]
Bleach, Vol. 15 [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]
