This review is from: Fullmetal Alchemist Season Two Part Two [DVD] [2004] (DVD)
The end is near. Revelations will be uncovered and a lone figure from the Elric's past will re-emerge. Fullmetal Alchemist season 2 part 2 contains the final 11 episodes of this epic anime over 3 discs. Even though the series has gone on for quite a while, the story is still as gripping, intriging and not to mention heartbreaking as ever. These final three volumes shed yet more light on the all-power philosophers stone that the brothers have been after since episode 1, and sees Edward face his toughest challenge yet by taking on a homunculus who bears the face of his beloved mother. Even at this later stage of the anime, Fullmetal Alchemist still manages to pull of some great drama that makes the series very tragic at times and quite heartwarming at other times. This anime ends on a terrific note after undergoing some phenomenal twists and turns making Fullmetal a series that was consistently good from beginning to end. I've said this quite a lot through my other FMA reviews, but this anime is quite simply the quintessential anime. Anime fan or not, you need to see this show. It is a testament of classic dramatic storytelling and is sure to live on as a classic for many years to come. In my opinion, Full Metal Alchemist is a series that can be watched over and over, as there are things that may not be noticed on the first viewing. However, the adventure isn't over yet...There is still 'the conqueror of shamballa' movie, that is well worth watching as it continues the story and ties up some loose ends...but I'll get to that next time...

In true fashion, there are some lovely action scenes, which, in the form of some truly fantastic emotionally charged fights scenes provides some awesome entertainment. The journey undergone by the Elric brothers is created with some realism and truth that it is sometimes easy to forget that this is just an anime. The main characters, as well as many of the secondary characters are really memorable and likeable in their own way and are sure to be remembered as some of the greatest anime characters of recent times.

Once again there is the usual choice of English dub, or the original Japanese language coupled with English subtitles. Both of these language tracks are fantastic and (depending on how much free time you have) it is worth watching the entire series with each of the languages. For me, the english dub really hits the spot as it is genuinely one of the finest dubs out there (along with BECK, Excel saga, and the melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya). To my delight the special features of this set include an inside look of the series which comprises of interviews with several members of the English dub cast and crew. Other features include textless songs, image galleries, trailers and character bios. So not a bad selection. The animation is a superb as ever, as it makes good use of the CGI mixed with traditional artwork, to make a series that utterly gorgeous to look at.

While I write this review, there is another Fullmetal Alchemist series being produced. Full Metal Alchemist:Brotherhood will be the next step (after the movie of course) for Full Metal Alchemist fans. From what I've heard, the new series is more faithful to the manga (I've created a discussion about this subject on this product's forum. Check it out).If you still havent seen Fullmetal alchemist, what are you waiting for? There has never been a better time to pick up this classic series as these season boxsets are are fantastic. Each release will set you back around 18 quid, but ultimately the overall experience is priceless. Enjoy!
