5.0 out of 5 stars Hey now, Mr Brown Cow, 13 Sep 2006
By Turbot (London) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Schoozzzmmii (Audio CD)
This album is magical. To describe it in a few words, I'd go for a pre-school psychedelic Beatles. It's a mish-mash of musical ideas, without much coherent structure, but sounds the better for it. The number of different instruments, with catchy riffs and hooks introduced throughout the album, ensure you're always entertained and the lo-fi nature of the recording gives it an earthy appeal.

'Childish' in the purest sense, it's innocence and playfulness are the work of a mature musician who is comfortable exploring new ideas and is happy to conjure up something different. Either that or they are the doodlings of a madman, cunningly mixed and produced by a re-hab regular. Whichever, the album works and will have you humming "Mr Brown Cow" at the most inappropriate moments. Glorious.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great follow up to Concubine Rice!, 18 Mar 2004
This review is from: Schoozzzmmii (Audio CD)
Those of you who are after something a little wierd, yet extremely wonderful are looking in the right place! I bought Lone Pigeon's debut a few weeks ago on the strength that he is also a member of The Beta Band (Best.Band.Ever), and adored it so much that I bought his follow up straight away (nearly buying it twice in a crazed fit of excitement!). The brilliantly titled "Schoozzzmmi!" sounds like the early Beta records, clever and often funny lyrics, fuzzy acoustic guitars and a wonderful organic sound that almost eliminates any thought of this being recorded in a studio. Even though Lone Pigeon uses many electronic sounds, they sound natural, warm and wonderful, as if they were played on Mother Nature's own synthesizer! There are so many great musical moments that it's impossible to list them all (also, the CD is without a track-listing!), from the genius violin sample of the opening track, to the weird fairytale accent 'Pigeon adopts on the album closer, it's all wonderful stuff. Lone Pigeon is a genius, and although "Schoozzzmmi" isn't quite as good as his debut, it is still completely essential music. If you don't own Concubine Rice get that first, then follow it immediately with this little work of art. Lone Pigeon...I love thee!

2.0 out of 5 stars Schoozzzmmii if I don't, 7 Jan 2006
By A. Brookes "aaro" (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Schoozzzmmii (Audio CD)
I bought this CD on the basis that this guy is ex-Beta Band, and to be honest, it's pretty disappointing. Don't get too excited about the comparisons with The Three EPs in the other review because the CD sounds very little like the Beta Band. The Beta Band's sound, although strange and unconventional in terms of arrangements, lyrics etc. was under control, and I should think, pretty rigorously questioned as it was made. This CD, on the other hand, does not seem to have been questioned at all, so all manner of random sounds and lyrics have been chucked together without a great deal of consideration. I heard a rumour that Lone Pigeon once made 150 (or was it 300?) tracks in a month, and I can well believe it! I think these are some of them...
