Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

New Apple iPod NanoRockalicious.
Colour isn't the only brilliant new iPod Nano feature. For those about to rock, we give you nine amazing colours. But that’s only part of the story. Feel the curved, all-aluminum and glass design and you won’t want to put iPod nano down. The accelerometer comes to iPod nano. Give it a shake to shuffle your music. Turn it sideways to view Cover Flow. And play games designed with your moves in mind. The new Genius feature turns iPod nano into your own highly intelligent, personal DJ. It creates playlists by finding songs in your library that go great together.

iPod Nano with Genius functionality

A musical Genius.

Say you’re listening to a song you really like and want to hear other tracks that go great with it. The Genius feature finds the songs in your music library that go great together and makes a Genius Playlist for you. It’s like having your own highly intelligent, personal DJ.

Shake to shuffle songs

Shake your groove thing.

Sometimes, we could all use a little unpredictability. And now you can shake to shuffle your music. Just give iPod nano a shake and it shuffles to a different song in your music library. You’ll always be surprised by what you’ll hear.

tilt or turn iPod Nano

Rock and roll over.

Tilt or turn iPod nano on its side, and you’ll listen, watch, and play in new ways. You can flip through your album art with Cover Flow. Or, vertically speaking, see more albums and artists on the screen at one time.

New games made for the new nano

Let the games begin.

Now you can get in on games made especially for iPod nano and the accelerometer. They respond to the way you move, so they’re immersive, addictive, and a blast. iPod nano comes with Maze, which lets you work your way through vast mazes by tilting and moving. You can find even more games on the iTunes Store.

Photos look great on the nano

Even your photos rock.

Pull hundreds of photos from your pocket and share them wherever you go. Hold iPod nano upright and see your photos in portrait view. Turn it on its side to see them in landscape. Your photos look beautiful in their proper aspect ratio on the vibrant, 320-by-240-resolution display

Watch films

World’s biggest small screen.

Watching movies, TV shows, and videos is big fun on iPod nano. And the high-resolution picture looks crisp and vivid on the 2-inch widescreen display. So you can always have a little video with you.

Find your music quickly

Find your music faster.

It’s even easier to find the song you want to hear. Now you can view your album art in Cover Flow. Or just press and hold the Center button to browse by album or artist. When you find the right song, press the Center button to add it to your on-the-go playlist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it, 25 Oct 2008
By P. Potter - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)    (VINE VOICE)
Well I finally bought one, after some discussions with one of the reviewers featured below. I bought it to replace a 2nd gen Nano and I'm very pleased indeed. Overall, a definite 5 star product, but I'm going to make a few critical comments too.

Good points:
Beautiful big, bright, colourful screen
Good sound quality through my Sennheiser PX100 phones which need a fair bit of power to drive them.
Videos look fantastic on this screen, far better than I expected.
Lots of memory.
Graphics, CoverFlow and user interface are excellent, but see comment below.

Bad points:
The volume limiter has been capped. I personally don't find this a problem, but I know some other users do. There is still enough power to hurt my ears at maximum volume, so it's not a huge issue. I also see you can compensate for quiet tracks by adjusting a volume preset within the iTunes software.
The case is a little more flimsy than the previous models.
The click wheel is a bit too sensitive now, probably to make it work better through skins.
There are some issues with CoverFlow, where you get duplicate covers or covers out of sequence. Plus not all covers are available. This is a shame because CoverFlow could have been the best feature of the product. Hopefully future upgrades to the software (iTunes and the iPod) will fix this.
As noted by another reviewer, it doesn't seem possible to disable CoverFlow, so if the iPod turns on its side in your pocket, you can't adjust the volume. Again, it needs a software change, so hopefully Apple will sort it.

In summary, there is room for improvement, but it is nevertheless an awesome gadget and I don't think there is much to beat it on the market.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, 23 Oct 2008
By J. Hardy - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought my iPod nano about 3 days ago, and already I have to say it's brilliant.

I'd never had an iPod before. I'd played around with my friends' iPods in the past, and was aware of how they worked and how they function, so I knew what to expect.

But I was surprised.
First, by the size of it.

It's TINY! Extremely thin, very light, but the screen is massive for all your videos etc. The blue is a great, bright colour which looks fantastic on the long thin device.

The sound quality's brilliant. The screen is wonderful, colourful and all your album art looks great on it. Flipping the device to see your Cover Flow is a great feature too, although sometimes I find I might want my iPod on my side but I can't due to the Cover Flow. No biggie though :)

The only other negative point I can think of is the the tempramental Genius feature. Sometimes (about 20% of the time), you'll get "Genius feature not available for this song", or something along those lines. It's probably because there aren't enough tracks that sound similar in your library, but I should imagine Apple will fix it in an update sometime soon.

Overall, I couldn't recommend this more - the 16gb capacity is another great feature.

Click buy, right now.

2.0 out of 5 stars Warning EU volume limit, 3 Oct 2008
I bought one of these new ipods today with the full knowledge that it did have the EU volume limit, so on that note i cannot complain that i didn't know what i was buying.
It should be said however that i had to find this information out from online sources, nothing official from Apple has come to light.

Alot of people will be using their new ipods and think nothing of the volume levels, I myself had numerous ear operations when i was a child, the consequence of that is that i do not have brilliant hearing to begin with.

For me the EU volume limit was slightly worse than i imagined it to be, it is about half as loud as my US nano (3g) Although i never listen to my 3g full volume i do need more than my current UK nano's full.

As i say this is a very personal review, 2 stars because of this volume limit may seem extreme to alot of people, but for my needs it is the difference between keeping it and sending it back.

I;ve been comparing the sound quality to the 3rd gen nano and i have to say i think it is slightly inferior, i cannot entirely quantify the difference only that it does sound different and less desirable in my view.

The ergonomics of the 4rth gen IMO are not nearly as intuitive as the 3rd.

Volume cap aside i have to say overall i think the 4th gen is a side step at best or a backwards step in regard to general functionality.

I recommend anyone with hearing difficulties to look into buying their ipod from an american seller on ebay etc at least that way you will be able to find a volume that is right for you.
