Product Description

Synopsis Set against the glittering backdrop of the glamorous but ruthless world of haute couture FASHION, this tells the story of one small town girl with a dream and the determination to make it a reality. Meghna Mathur knew in her bones that she was meant to be famous. Ever ambitious and bright with stars in her eyes, even as a girl with conservative parents from a small north Indian town - she dared to dream of bright lights and the big city.. Meghna never wanted to compromise on anything on her journey to success - as she puts it - whoever said intelligent women couldn't be glamorous? She reaches the peak of her success and rises to walk the ramps for leading designers across India. The FASHION world lies at her feet - the parties, the brand endorsements, the photographers, the models, the romance and of course - the shows, the shows, the shows! However karma catches up with Meghna as she slowly starts to pay the price for her fame and her journey to the top. Her attempt at a comeback was going to be a near impossibility. However she was never a woman to turn away from a challenge. FASHION explores the world of style through the emotional personal journeys of the key people that make the industry - the dream-weavers of that elaborate world of glamour: the models, designers, photographers, businessmen, agencies etc. In the world of image - makers - is it possible to conquer it and remain true to yourself? This is Madhur's most expensive film till date which stars Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut, Mughda Godse, Arjan Bajwa, and Harsh Chhaya primarily. Apart from them a horde of other B-towners will be seen in cameos namely - Konkona Sen Sharma, Ranvir Shorey, Arbaaz Khan, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Karan Johar, Prahlad Kakkar, Daboo Ratnani, designers Wendell Rodricks & Manish Malhotra and last but not the least of all Madhur himself will be seen in a small cameo.

5.0 out of 5 stars indian women on way to spiritual vogue, 5 Jan 2009

INDIAN WOMAN FINALLY ON THE WAY TOSPIRITUAL VOGUE-[DEDICATED TO MY FRIEND MAAYA]

if you thought bollywood just made precarious romcoms and mockney hilarious martyr tributes like heroes ,then think again as the fall arrives and the leaves turn to flaming colors ,so does the silver screen turn to dazzling colors and we are graced with a mature and well conceived product ,which is not perfect but miles ahead of the mumbai claptrap i have abhorred for eons .

the story of two supermodels is played with an enchanting style and startling talent by priyanaka and kangna ,both of whom i had given upon for a while now -the movie encases the adventures of the mumbai catwalks and fashion industry .

it entails all in it's entrails from homosexual designers to snobby fashion queens ,from bitching boyfriends to drug sniffing divas and it delights in every frame with it's freshness and courage .
but it is not just this as that is hardly shocking when compared to Robert Altman's PRET-A-PORTER ,based on a similar theme but this is a revelation compared to that because it's compromised characters are allowed to breathe and make their own judgments as it is not implicting or impeaching but observing both the intricate indian family structure and how that juxtaposes on the complexities of the modern milieu .

it might show mumbai as a third world drug and corruption hovel populated with insincere cocaine addicts and closetted gay queens but it is a straight honest view and delivers it's premises without any sermons or melodrama so typical of recent bollywood blunders which are just terribly trashy .

this is dressed as a vogue statement and as a fashion entrepreneur it will deligh the portion of audience who revel in fabulous costumes and great looking models but it also has an insight which makes it primally endearing in both affect and intellect .

the woman here is not looking for a man to free herself or him too-she is a step ahead as she is searching for her soul and is in collusion with social norms without being a rebel ,very much like an ordinary girl in middle india would behave in natural circumstances who will run and fall but pick herself up without losing her sight .

the motivation and self discovery of an ordinary middle class girl becomes a very endearing statement and it preserves its so-called bourgeois origins where most middle class pretensions are mocked exquisitely by the maker ,
mr.bhandarkar needs to be fecilitated for making a really focussed product which might be not so frayed round the edges to be a masterpiece ,but it sure is a genuine and heartfelt drama which is both real, engaging ,amusingly humorous and intensely satisfying .
starring
arbaz khan
priyanka chopra
kangna ranaut-neil mukesh
director writer-madhur bhandarkar

1.0 out of 5 stars No glitz nor glamour!, 8 Aug 2009
By Peter Roxburgh (Dorset, UK) - See all my reviews

On a recent trip home to India, my wife decided to stock on some Hindi DVD's. This was one that we unfortunately spent some money on.

Having watched 'Page 3' Page 3 (Subtitled) (DVD) [2005]
I thought this would be a good movie as well that would give some insight into the fashion industry in India.

But I (and my wife) were deeply disappointed. The acting was well below what one would expect and the story just lumbered on and on. My wife persevered through the film but I quickly decided my time was better spent elsewhere - like watching paint dry!

So please do NOT spend any money on this DVD.
