4.0 out of 5 stars A Handy way of backing up your hard drive, 14 Dec 2008
This smart little portable hard drive is great value, especially at the reduced price. It comes with a smart leather style carry pouch and with all the necessary connection leads ie USB and power adaptor. The transfer speed is fairly fast despite only being USB 2.0 and handles most documents and files with ease.
There is attached software so that you can set up a password and lock the drive to prevent any unauthorised access. The only downside to this is that you cannot use the drive on other PCs/laptops unless it has the unlocking software installed. You need to remove the password before unplugging from your host PC/laptop and plugging into another machine.
There are other brands out there of a similar size and spec but for ability, looks and ease of use, this is one of the best for the price.
500 GB is more than enough for the casual user to back up their entire PC hard drive and still have plenty of space for movies, music and photos.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect External Drive For Laptop Backups, 13 Dec 2008

    (REAL NAME)
Fujitsu HandyDrive-III 500GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive

Since I already owned the 300GB version of this Fujitsu HandyDrive, I knew what to expect from this 500GB unit, and I was not disappointed.
This is such a usefully compact and solidly built drive, small enough to slip into a coat pocket or a storage pocket in a laptop carry-bag. It comes with its own very neat leather storage wallet which is a nice touch.

It is quite slow compared to some other drives, but I don't mind this since I principally want this for making backups from my laptop, a task to which it is ideally suited, whilst I get on with something else. It is very quiet in operation, and I like the fact that it powers itself from the USB port eliminating the need for transformers and trailing leads that spoil many other external drives.

Windows XP and Vista instantly recognise the drive and automatically load the required drivers the first time you plug it in to a USB port ... trult plug-n-play. It came ready formatted with FAT32, so I did need to reformat it it to NTFS for use with Vista, but that was no chore since I always feel happier reformatting a new drive before use anyway.

For such a huge amount of storage in such a small, elegant and reliable package I give this top marks and a Highly Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very happy with this product., 26 Feb 2009
Got this today, backed up entire 200gb laptop and still have nearly 300gb free. It's fast, HOST POWERED (unless you're on usb1 or an underpowered laptop) - It runs fine on my Dell M1330 without the additional power lead.
The shiny plastic is probably going to be a scratch/fingerprint magnet, but it comes with a very nice case which will pad it and hold the cable too. I'll probably be getting another of these if they keep the same package at this price (ie drive+case).
