Whatever your level of experience, high quality pictures are guaranteed due to the inclusion of 28 shooting modes, with pre-optimised settings for a range of subjects and conditions plus automatic and manual options. Crisp, richly detailed images are delivered courtesy of a 10 megapixel Live MOS sensor, supported by a TruePic III image processor allowing the implementation of Olympus' Shadow Adjustment Technology to enable even exposures even in tricky lighting, low noise and fast processing speed. A case in point; sequential shooting of up to eight full resolution RAW images at 3.5 frames per second (fps) sis possible for those photographers requiring both optimum image quality and optimum speed.

Further ensuring stunning results, dust is kept at bay thanks to Olympus' proprietary Supersonic Wave Filter, which shakes the senor free of any undesirables. Aiding ease of use, photographers can compose and review images courtesy of a generous 2.7-inch HyperCrystal II LCD screen, with 100% scene coverage and the ability to magnify the image by 7x or 10x to help with manual focusing. A Perfect Shot Preview function also allows camera settings to be witnessed on screen and monitored in real time. Auto focus performance has further been enhanced, with a contrast AF system for the added convenience of being able to see the effects of auto focusing in Live View mode immediately on the E-420's LCD.
