It doesn't get much better than this, 14 Mar 2008
Borrowing an expression of Aled's, much repeated on Good Morning Sunday - "it doesn't get any better than this".
The Good Morning Sunday twin cd's can't help but "Raise you up". Reading from the sleeve notes, this is Radio 2 music that really "matters" ... and I would add that it has lyrics to match.
Our family - being amongst the many thousands of young and old who 'religiously' tune in at the 'unearthly' hour of 7am week by week without fail, for our 'fix' of most 'heavenly' goodies - can vouch for the compilations authenticity.
Nowhere else will you find such an inspired mix, celebrating and reflecting upon the joys of life love and faith - and in so many different genres, including choral music, folk and modern worship song.
Interviewing a number of the artistes featured, Aled, as he gently probes for signs of shared spirituality, often discovers a common feeling with them of, in his words "being taken to another place", especially when performing this sort of music - and it shows, through each of these 40 tracks.
Judging by the flood of texts and emails that the live programme receives every Sunday, of praise and thanks for the blessings it dispenses, the Good Morning Sunday cd's are going to keep untold numbers of us 'addicts' happy for many a 'good' morning afternoon and evening - and not just on Sundays but also Monday through to Saturday each week as well.
Yes Aled, not only will we, as you exhort, "keep the faith" but we'll also 'keep', play and treasure this unique piece of truly God inspired art for many years to come.
Whilst highlighting Aled's own beautiful "You Raise Me Up" may I, in the words of two others of the song titles proclaim - "Amazing Grace" how sweet 'these sounds'. "Hallelujah"!
Thanks Aled and Good Morning Sunday, not only for bringing together all us listeners on the Radio... but also now for this truly uplifting album too.

A Heavenly Winner, 9 Mar 2008
As a fan of the Radio 2 Good Morning Sunday Show ( GMS) for several years now it is poignant to see the release of this Double-CD. This encapsulates the essence of the programs eclectic mix in terms of music, which is both restful and spiritually uplifting. The songs being chosen by presenter Aled Jones, who leads the way on this heavenly selection with his own take of Secret Gardens 'Raise Me Up'.
The compilation includes many well-known names and track favourites in terms of Eva Cassidy - 'Wade In The Water', Elvis Presley- 'Amazing Grace', Zucchero & Sinead O'Connor - 'Va Pensiero', Sarah McLachlan - 'Angel', Alison Krauss And Union Stations - 'A Living Prayer', Gretchen Peters- 'Sunday Morning' (Up And Down My Street), Rick Wakeman - 'Morning Has Broken' and Kate Rusby's 'The Village Green Preservation Society'. This Folk song recently received extensive Radio 2, plays.
Each week the program has a Choral Classic feature and Libera - 'Locuste Iste', The Treorchy Male Choir - 'Faraway Place' and The Inspirational Choir with the timeless hymn 'Abide With Me', represents this.
GMS has introduced me to many new names over the years and I'm delighted that tracks appear by Dawud Wharmsby - 'The Truth That Lies Inside', Loudon Wainwright III - 'A Father and Son' and Christian Forshaw's - 'Hereford'. The latter is a quite gorgeous uplifting arrangement.
By way of the shows weekly Sunday Spotlight this has provided a vehicle for artists to receive their first ever National Radio airplay, all of whom have gone onto greater things. Pink Martini being one, and their music is portrayed here with 'The Gardens Of Sampson And Beasley' and secondly Emily Maguire who then went on Don McLean's UK and Ireland tour back in the autumn of 2007. This talented ladies title cut 'Keep Walking' is a very catchy radio friendly song with its upbeat melody and despite the darkness of the subject material has such an uplifting and motivating intensity.
I am thrilled that some of the Live Show performances were recorded for this release. Martin Simpson's live take of Randy Newmans' 'Louisiana 1927' and Radio 2's Folk Artist of The Year Julie Fowlis with 'Do Làmh a Chrìosda (Your Hand Oh Christ) were quite masterful. Also Beth Nielsen Chapman's 'Durrow' and Eric Bibb's 'Hold On' were truly incredible, especially considering the early starts to the day and are worth the price of the album alone!
This 40 track compilation will communicate a comfort and joy to the listener and as in Patty Griffin's track provide a quite 'Heavenly Day'!
I highly recommend the album and this Radio 2 GMS debut is indeed a Great Music Selection.

A fabulous collection!, 9 Mar 2008
What an amazing array of music! As an avid online listener to Aled Jones on his Good Morning Sunday programme on BBC Radio2, I know the wonderful music that we're treated to every week by Aled and his production team. GMS, being a programme 'for those of faith, or of none' as Aled perfectly describes it, is full of insightful interviews and music that has the same uplifting and inspirational qualities that Aled selects for the tracks of his own albums that he records.
The Good Morning Sunday album has a wealth of great talent represented here...from the deliciousness of Pink Martini's 'Gardens of Samson and Beasley' and Kate Rusby's 'Village Green Preservation Society', to the hauntingly beautiful contemporary sounds of Eva Cassidy's 'Wade in the Water', my fellow Australian, Lior's 'This Old Love', Allison Krauss's 'Living Prayer', Emilie Maguire's 'Keep Walking', Gretchen Peter's 'Sunday Morning', Sarah McLachlan's 'Angel', Jeff Buckley's 'Hallelujah', Libera's 'Locus Iste', The Adventist Vocal Ensemble's 'Mary Did You Know'....and on the wonderful list goes with so many more amazing tracks, superbly headlined with Aled's own perfect version of 'You Raise Me Up'.
This is a fabulous journey into an outstanding range of music that captures the inspiration of Good Morning Sunday. Wish as I may, I can't listen again to the weekly replays of Aled's show wherever I am, but with this album in my car stereo here in Australia, that special flavour of Aled's programme can travel with me.
You'd be hard-pressed to find another such uplifting collection....for those of faith, or of none.
