5.0 out of 5 stars 'The great charm of tea and coffee, 16 Feb 2009

This review is from: Tea And Coffee (Paperback)
is that they give pleasure on so many levels......

....Somebody with a cup of Sergeant Major's special and six spoonfuls of sugar can be just as happy as the enthusiast with his few leaves of First Flush Darjeeling.
The same goes for a mug of instant coffee and a coveted cup of Jamaican Blue Mountain.
Dipping into this book may not change your idea of your favourite tea or coffee, but it will show you the amazing choice that lies out there, waiting to be tried.
I am a great believer in changing one's drink regularly (a statement that is sometimes wilfully misconstrued!), and a change of tea or coffee not only gives the taste buds a treat; it reawakens your awareness of flavour, and can lead to the exciting discovery of something new.
Giles Hilton, Whittard of Chelsea, Jan 1995.'

52 high quality matt cream pages, split over main chapters:-

Tea and Coffee
The Story of Tea
Cultivation and Processing
Teas of the World
Tasting Tea
Tea Terminology
Tea Making Chart
Golden Rules of Tea Making

The Story of Coffee
The Coffee Plant
Picking, Processing, Roasting and Grinding
Coffees of the World
Tasting Coffee
Tasting Notes
Golden Rules of Coffee Making/Fault Finding - a highly useful page of the most common complaints for that `not-so-great' finished product - when using a cafetière or a stove top espresso.

Along with charming black and white illustrations from Tim Uden, this informative book also includes some maps, e.g. 'Indian and Ceylon Tea' and 'Coffee Growing Areas of the World' and is interspersed with the odd relevant extract, such as:-

From the chapter entitled - 'The Story of Tea'
Margaret Sangster - 'Tea and the Empire':-

'A silhouette of silver sails against a shining sky,
A clipper ship, a ghostly shape, that stealthily slips by;
A crew that croons a merry song,
A phantom song, sung low
"To India, to India, to India, we go!"....'
