3.0 out of 5 stars Navman F10, cheap and cheerful!!, 28 May 2008
By Skyman001 "skymandan" (Somerset, England) - See all my reviews
Got the Navamn F10 as a "Freebie" with an insurance policy. I was pleasantly surprised with the unit. With a little practice it's easy to use, fairly accurate and is quick to redirect you if you take a wrong turn. The touch screen makes it fairly easy to select the various features. Plus of course it is a Navman. If you're looking for a good cheap sat nav system, give this one a try. The post code search is good. At one time this unit was very difficulty to find, but is becoming more readily available. Are there better units out there at the same price? Possibly - but I would recommend anyone to take a look at the F10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, works, cheap!, 27 Sep 2008
By kevin mccaughey (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
For £59 this is a bargain! I had put off buying a SatNav for some time as I couldn't justify spending £150+ on it. When I saw the mailshot for this I went ahead and bought it, thinking it might be just ok. In actual fact it is fantastic! The audio cues for turning are really effective as they tell you stuff like "after 200 yards, turn right then take third left". This might sound simple, but in a previous SatNAv I played with it told you only the next turn, and then almost too late to actually have time to take in what it was saying.

The sucker thingy for attaching it to your windscreen is really well designed. It attaches securely and is also easily removed thanks to the tab + lever sytem.

The screen is readable and clear, though sometimes a bit tricky in direct sunlight. The audio though means that you don't ofen need to look at it. The menu system is fantastic and I would give the software full stars for useability. From start to finish it is really, really simple to use and has a very intuative interface. Although the manual says it won't work with vista x64, I was able to download and update it on my Vista x64 (windows server 2008 to be exact!) system. I had a spare USB lead (USB->mini USB) from another windows mobile device and this works perfectly for charging and updating the software. It is not included in the package, but you can buy on ebay for about £2 if you don't have one. I don't need to use the in-car charger as charging it from a spare USB port keeps it working for ages (had it a week now and haven't needed to recharge it!)

One criticism I would have is that the maps aren't entirely accurate in some circumstances. It seems to count alleyways and some cyclepaths as roads! This is a minor niggle though and only occured when I was testing it near home - I live in a terrace with lots of small back lanes. It got me from York to Bradford without a hitch, which is a miracle for me as I have absolutely no sense of direction!

If you want a SatNav that does just what you want it to do, when you want it, then I can't recommend it highly enough. I don't know why anyone would pay more when this does exactly what you need it to do and does it really well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Navman F10, 14 Jan 2008
By Andy (London GB) - See all my reviews
I bought the Navman F10 in November 2007 and have used it since then. I was led to think that software cartridges for Europe and the USA were already available (there was an ambiguity on the http://www.navmanstore.co.uk/ site) but an exchange of emails with the manufacturer revealed that these would not be available until the end of January 2008 at the earliest.

Using the F10 can be tricky: the instructions are minimalist, to be charitable. Once you learn how to use it, the F10 is reasonably accurate although when driving through London mastering The Knowledge is more effective, just as being a chess master is better than relying on chess software to win a game.

The price is right though, and for the casual user you won't go wrong with this. Look foe special sales; you can sometimes get good discounts.
