5.0 out of 5 stars Ignore The Rating - These ROCK, 12 Nov 2008
This review is from: Shure Se110-N Sound Isolating Earphones - Black (Electronics)
I never write reviews, but felt an obligation as these fine headphones seem to only have an overall rating of 2.5 stars - crazy!. Firstly, i'm an audio technician, so know my stuff. i won't go into detail, but they sound good, and are very well balanced (plus they get better with time!). lets face it, these are going to be used predominantly with mp3's/portable players... i challenge anyone to justify better quality with low bitrate music! on that note, the build quality is about as good as it gets - these will survive being dragged around with your ipod (even wound round it). They cost 50% more than your bog standard headphones, but produce 400% of the quality, and will physically last! On top of that, Shure has an excellent customer service if you do run into problems, which is unlikely. i could go on all day, but i can't be gassed.

In a nutshell, the Apple store sells these for £69.99 and they're worth it at that price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Major improvement, 8 Feb 2008

This review is from: Shure Se110-N Sound Isolating Earphones - Black (Electronics)
I bought a pair of Shure E2C headphones some months ago and unfortunately the cable broke. Something very unlikely, given the build and material quality. I phoned Shure distribution and they promptly replaced my headphones for the new SE110 (by the way, congratulations for the service!)

These new headphones are a major improvement: the sound is richer and they have better bass response, which was a general complain. The extension cable is something that works well and the sleeves, especially the soft ones, are very impressive. I tried these headphones in the underground, airplanes and other noisy environments and never needed to get the volume above 3/4. When compared to my B&O a8, the treble is not as bright and the bass is not as deep, but for outdoor use I just take these headphones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clarity is the name of the game, 24 May 2009
By Big.E (London, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shure Se110-N Sound Isolating Earphones - Black (Electronics)
This review is aimed at anyone who is simply looking for a decent pair of earphones after the trash that Apple provide you with or a cheaper pair of Sony's etc, so here goes. Sorry if it's a little long!

Having been quite happy with my Sennheiser CX-300s up til now, I thought it was time to see what the fuss was about and get my mitts on some of these Shure in-ear heaphones everyone seemed to be raving about.

After trying them out at first I kept going back to the Sennheisers for brief periods, convinced that I wouldn't be able to get used to them. However, after keeping my EQ off for a week to help "bed" them in, I started looking for the best setting to go for. People's comments about the lack of bass are very true if you are coming from a regular (read Sennheiser/Sony/JVC et al) set of in-ear buds. In the end, I found the Latin setting to be a good balance.

Over the next few days I went through artists from Foo Fighters to Alicia Keys to Hybrid. At this point they really started to shine. I really was hearing things I wouldn't normally hear, and it hit me that clarity is what these 'phones are about. None of this artifically enhanced bass or ear-splitting treble. Just balanced natural sound, pure and simple. I think this is borne out by the fact that I can get home from my daily commute and where the Sennheisers would almost leave my ears ringing for a few minutes, I feel none of this 'fatigue' with the Shures. They are extremely comfortable to wear, and provide almost perfect noise isolation. I can hear virtually nothing on the Tube with the volume at 75%, and even less when sitting in a busy office. As a result of this they are better for your ears in the long run as you don't need to have the volume up as high as you would with another set.

In short, stick with them and these phones will reward you. I can't recommend them enough. Now if I go back to my Sennheisers, they sound clunky and artificial and the fit is abysmal compared to these. The Shures truly are in a different league to the run-of-the-mill offerings from the usual manufacters. I will definitely be buying more Shures in the future, if and when these pack up or I've got more disposable cash to treat myself. I've given five stars because they are brilliant and I don't think they deserve to lose marks because some people can't seem to read instructions.

Thanks for reading if you've made it this far, and I hope this is of some help to someone.
