5.0 out of 5 stars These SHURE sound good, 8 Jan 2008
This review is from: Shure SE110 Sound Isolating Earphones (Electronics)
I travel on the tube every day and the background noise usually drown out my Sony mp3 player's horrible stock Sony headphones. But these Shures are amazing and I am isolated from all the rattle and grinding. The only problem is I miss out on the driver announcements.

I also own the cheaper sound isolating Creative Labs EP-630 earphones which people on Amazon seem to love (114+ five star reviews). Although the Creative is very good value for money, I can tell that the build quality, design and sound quality of these Shure is so much better.

I'm sure the Shure SE210, SE310, SE420 and (gulp) SE530 perform even better than the SE110 but you have to consider the price and whether your mp3 player can do them any justice.

5.0 out of 5 stars MP3 bitrates and this are perfect, 22 Jan 2008
This review is from: Shure SE110 Sound Isolating Earphones (Electronics)
A friend bought the slightly more expensive SE210 while I got these SE110 earphones for our iPods. I wanted a good brand and a short (extendable) cable to connect to my iPod remote without a long trailing cable.

My friend opted for the next model up after reading a Trusted Review, I too was tempted by it but let's be practical. I listen to pop, easy listening and rock. Middle of the road type music, and it's recorded on a lowish (Apple suggested) 128 bitrate. At that level for music and videos, you cannot distinguish between SE110 and SE210 models. Podcasts with spoken conversations definitely do not show any difference in audiable quality.

The mids are clear, the bass is good although not overwhelming (as some people like) as long as you seal the earphones (properly) right into your ear canal. The highs are not bad but posibly due in no small part by the bitrate samples, they are not as crystal clear as you may think they should be for the price (this is for SE210 and SE110 models). To be fair, the results would be much more favourable if you used a 256 bitrate recording for your tracks, but for iPods without hard drives, that may not be practical.

If you have an iPod Nano, Touch (or even the Shuffle) then save your money if you're after some Shures and get the SE110

5.0 out of 5 stars got these from sure as a replacement for some broken e2c headphones, 23 July 2008
By P. M. Lyon (Warwickshire, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Shure SE110 Sound Isolating Earphones (Electronics)
Initial thoughts for me were the same as the e2c, "wow these sound bad" but after actually reading the sure website they recommend you leave them playing music relatively loudly for about 12 hours before you judge the sound quality, and my god does it make a difference, straight away the bass comes up to scratch, the trebles droop in a positive manner, and the mids get all mellow and smiley :)

these really are very good headphones, and what that guy was saying about no-name japanese cheapo players is untrue, i own 2 i-rivers, a sony and an ipod video and still my 'sumvison' cheapo sd card reader mp3 player that i bought for long distance trekking (runs on aaa batteries) blows them out of the water on sound quality :P and is now my player of choice...

hope i've helped someone, really do let these headphones break in :)
