Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Description

Say hello to the world's smallest mass produced bipedal humanoid robot! I-Sobot is the most astounding piece of robotics we've seen for a while, and is sure to become the must-have robot for gadget enthusiasts, with a big personality all of his own. He measures only 16cm tall and weighs just 300grams, but don't let that fool you into thinking there's anything lightweight about this little guy - it takes seriously complex robotics to make him so animated.

I-Sobot comes ready to play straight from the box and you can choose from 4 modes, including one where he can perform fun and quirky scenes from western battles, through to voice command recognition that enables I-Sobot to respond (yes, respond) to 10 words or phrases you say. He has 200 programmed English spoken phrases that are often hilarious and always impressive. But the most jaw-dropping thing about I-Sobot is the human-like articulation that arises from the multiple jointed design of his arms and legs. His 17 servo-motors enable him to perform a series of impressive pre-installed actions, such as gymnastics, dancing and even kung fu! All this comes from simply pressing combinations of buttons on his remote control, which comes with full instructions. If you've ever wanted a indication of how robotics is evolving, I-Sobot is your window on the future.

Box Contains

  • 1 x i-Sobot robot
  • 1 x Remote control
  • 3 x AAA rechargeable batteries for robot (remote control batteries not included)
  • 1 x Instruction panel

4.0 out of 5 stars I Can Walk Like This!, 30 Dec 2008
Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Tomy I-Sobot (Toy)
I'm no tech-head but the I-Sobot is seriously impressive kit. Standing at 6.5" and sporting 17 servo motors, there's a whole lot of mobility built into something that's very small.

The I-Sobot has four modes of control; RC, Program, Special Action and Voice Command.

RC requires you enter codes to perform pre-set actions, whilst also giving some manual control over the walking and arm movements. Program lets you string together the moves used in RC mode. Special Action is a great way to demo the robots articulation and voice command sees the robot respond to 10 verbal orders.

With some 150 pre-set moves, 200 sound effects and a program mode there's plenty to keep you entertained. That said, I-Sobot does have a few rough edges.

The "control pad" is a little awkward. Whilst the instruction booklet does list input codes, it's not all that intuitive. To see the I-Sobot perform a kung fu punch, having to press "1,2,P" isn't the obvious choice.

The other gripe I have is with the battery life. I-Sobot comes with 3 AAA chargable batteries and a mains charger. That's all well and good, but the batteries sit inside I-Sobot's chest, which means you're always unscrewing the thing. Not ideal if you're buying the I-Sobot as a gift for a young one.

Saying that, it should be noted that whilst the I-Sobot is recommended for ages 10+, it won't stand up to a whoopin'. It's solid but not invincible. The joints themselves can go out of line simply through use but, thankfully, you also get an Allen key supplied with the robot to fix any problems.

All told though, I-Sobot is a great little robot and bridges the gap between the likes of kid friendly Robosapiens and more techie friendly Robonovas.

Got mine for Christmas, they are great fun and really easy to use.
No setting up, just charge up the batteries for the robot (supplied, need buy them for the remote), and away you go.
I was very skeptical at first but, my doubts were un founded.
Very good value now the price has been reduced.

Not impressed to have a broken servo on the right leg straight out of the box. Googled problems with the i-sobot and others seem to have the same problem. Read more

This is easy to use, maybe a bit tricky to use for the younger children. It will do most tricks. You can save your own programs or use pre programmed ones.
