Serj strikes gold..., 4 May 2008
Fair to Midland were signed to Serj Tankian's label after he apparently fell in love with their unique, stunningly expansive alt-rock, and soon after, the band supported first Dir In Grey (hugely popular Japanese emo-rockers) and then Serj himself on the System Of A Down man's first UK tour as a solo artist. Useful connections aside, this band is entirely worthy of the praise heaped upon them by both fans and critics as they are nothing short of a breath of fresh air. It's difficult to describe their sound as it takes in so many styles and influences, but there are traces of System Of A Down (naturally), Faith No More and a whole host of others, whose names will be on the tip of your tongue but for a split second, before disappearing into the ether as your attention is brought back to the music at hand.
With songs that are cerebral and quirky yet accessible and catchy, over the 12 tracks on offer here, Fair to Midland strike the perfect balance between beautiful and heavy. Frontman Darroh Sudderth, in particular, is a star in the making, with a jaw-dropping vocal range that elevates the band's already impressive racket to something truly sublime and this album, though destined to remain a hidden treasure, is an absolute classic.

Addictive, fun, yet with so much feeling, you'll love it!, 11 Aug 2007
I came across this band purely by accident when they supported Dir en grey, they had me intrigued immediately!
Anyway, suffice to say I bought the cd, and have not been disappointed in the slightest.
The album starts with one of my personal favourites, Dance of the manatee, It's up beat and lively and almost makes me want to keep it on repeat.. Darroh Sudderth puts his vocals through a huge range from growls to screams, but all sound completely beautiful, which will have you attempting your own squawks along with him in no time.
A few of my favourite tracks would have to be 'Kyla cries Cologne','April Fools and Eggmen' and 'Walls of Jericho'. Saying that every track is astounding in a completely different way, there is not even the slightest hint of 'filler tracks' on there.. leaving the listener perfectly happy from beginning to end.
The band definately have their own sound, smooth, beautiful vocals with a huge range, over gripping riffs and addictive tunes.
I cannot recommend this album and band highly enough. The album a perfect place to start, but seeing them live will completely blow you away!
From one new fan to another .. Give them a listen! you'll not regret it!

Amazing, 7 Sep 2008
There is no other band like fair to midland. Fables from a mayfly: what i tell you three times is true is an amazing album. The vocals are increadible, reaching from growling lows to searing highs, and the instrumentals sound like no other band now. Songs like April Fools and Eggmen, Dance of the Manatee, and vice/versa illustrate the versitality and creativity of the band: but those are, by no means, the only good songs on the album; the entire album is listenable (in fact, this album sounds a LOT better if you listen to the album from start to finish). So check them out, buy 'fables from a mayfly: what i tell you three times is true' now, and enjoy their un-catergorizable sound.
