Gardman 8x6 Aluminium Greenhouse, 27 Jan 2009
This review is from: Gardman 8' x 6' Aluminium Garden Greenhouse Frame , polycarbonate pack, galvanised base, base anchors and assembly tool
These greenhouses absolutely MUST be built in a sheltered spot. I had one (by necessity in a rather exposed spot) on an allotment and it blew down twice, the second time to its complete destruction. As the frame is very light it is also rather flimsy, and when caught by the wind, the aluminium will bend and rip very easily.
The polycarbonate glazing panels are held in by metal clips, and a fairly light breeze just 'pings' them out of the frame. My panels popped out so often that I eventually stuck them all in with half a dozen tubes of silicone sealant. Which may of course have contributed to the grand destruction wreaked by the second storm. Perhaps if the panels hadn't been sealed in they would have blown away on their own and left the frame intact, who knows...
This is not intended as a criticism of the greenhouse itself, just a warning that they absolutely HAVE to be put in sheltered spots. Do that and they'll probably last for years.

Great value for money, 12 April 2009
This review is from: Gardman 8' x 6' Aluminium Garden Greenhouse Frame , polycarbonate pack, galvanised base, base anchors and assembly tool
This item takes a full day to construct, however, it's worth taking the time, as I now have a lovely solid well built greenhouse. It's bolted down to the patio in a sheltered spot, and so far so good.
The clips for the panels look complicated, but once you have the knack, glazing is a cinch. I recommend that you take off the polythene protection from the panels as you glaze, rather than leaving it until all the panels are in place - it was awkward and time-consuming to remove the plastic in situ.
So, in conclusion, if you have a limited budget (I did, about £300) but you want a decent well made greenhouse, this is the one for you. I did lots of research, and this one came out top. Yes there are sturdier, better made greenhouses out there, but you'll pay the price for them. This one does what it says on the tin, is aesthetically pleasing, and comes in under budget. Jobs's a good 'un.
