4.0 out of 5 stars Sobered Up and back with a bang, 18 Aug 2006
By Ben (Portsmouth, Hants United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
At first hearing the new Evanescence single from their forthcoming second album 'The Open Door' is more goth-pop than goth-rock. Amy Lee's vocals are strong as ever, with slightly less serious and far more playful phrasing of the the lyrics. Indeed, the title of the single is far from the nebulous goth rants of 'Bring Me To Life' or the more suicidal tendencies of 'My Last Breath' or 'Tourniquet', the more negative blood which pumped through their first album, 2003's 'Fallen'. If this new single is anything to go by, the group, with new member Terry Balsamo in replacement of Ben Moody has regrouped and produced another offering of strong and indulgent power ballads. Lee herself admits that she had fun with the record, and the positivity with which she enthuses the promotional copy can certainly be seen on the album, and this single. On first listen, the quiter piano introduction and middle sections actually seem more disjointed than on previous songs such as 'Bring Me To Life', but as ever, classically trained Lee manages to glue everything together with delightfully balanced piano and determinedly passionate vocals. In short, it sounds like a goth-rock group who aren't afraid to have fun with their music. It's not all death, occult and anger. It can make you high, as Lee shows in the video for this single, where, in vivid red, she can be seen levitating amidst a large centre-piece staircase. And her grin in the closing shot of the video tell you all you need to know about her, her band, and this new album. Enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Oops a manufacturing error, 5 Oct 2006
By PalominBeaut (Hull, UK) - See all my reviews
A Great song which sounds like it will grow on you the more you hear it. A very good acoustic version too which isn't only just acoustic guitars - well thought out.

My copy which says on the label and on the packaging that there are 4 tracks (DVD Video and Making of Video included). They are not there, and it must be down to a possible manufacturing error. Interestingly enough, CD 2 has the two audio tracks on their own with no extra material.
