4.0 out of 5 stars Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly - The Chronicles of a Bohemian Teenager, 26 Sep 2006
By I. Lehnert (Derby/Blackburn, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
God knows what Sam Duckworth, lone Get Cape-er was thinking of when he came up with this moniker, but this homegrown guitarist clearly has his musical heart in the right place at least. Coming across like a modern day acoustic troubadour backed only by his guitar and a laptop (with some sparse strings and a trumpeter in some places), he's definitely a likeable singer/songwriter on paper. And the media attention is warranted to some extent, too; he's got a great ear for melody and doesnt let his lyrics get bogged down in the standard singer/songwriter relationship problems. Makes a nice change, actually.

Sam's not putting on a faux-American accent too, letting his southern English voice come through, if a little harshly for the songs at times like on part 2 of the title track. But his acoustic strumming is well complimented by the electronic drum backing, which simply allows the songs to breathe when they arrive and doesnt constrict or overwhelm them. Like with Halloween Alaska, it's hard to compare him to someone, and whilst he isn't the second coming (experience says no one the British media hypes up will ever be), this is a pretty damn good CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let's talk about..., 26 Sep 2006

Deep, meaningful, original, varied, catchy, just some of the words I would use to describe this great display of song writing by someone with a REAL passion for what he is writing about.
The more I play it, the more I am intrigued, the more I understand, the more I am gripped, the more I Love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Album of the Year ?, 8 Sep 2007
By Peter L. Jones (Nuneaton, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I heard Get Cape . . . for the first time on the Reading Festival coverage by the BBC, and this alone moved me to buy the album. This has to be one of the freshest and most vibrant albums of the year.

All power to Sam and his crew for a great live performance and a great album full of individual songs of great quality.

If you do not buy this you are sadly missing a fantastic debut album, there will be more I am sure.
