They say that to play the blues you must first experience the blues. Surely the same rule applies to rock music.
You can't play really good rock music unless you've taken the rock n roll lifestyle SERIOUSLY...and lived to tell the tale.
Eddie & The Hot Rods have certainly had more than their fair share of highs and lows, yet they have bounced right back with this remarkable album, which can proudly sit alongside the hey-day classics, such as "Thriller" and "Life on the Line".
There are plenty of real gems on "Been There, Done That..." and I have my favourites but there will no doubt be many Hot Rods fans out there who, after listening to this album, will find their own.
It opens with a real stunner - "Why Should I Care". The first ten seconds of gentle guitar intro only serve to lull the listener into a false sense of security before seconds later, all three guitars with His Masters voice sailing out above all, herald the driving drum beat which hammers the song all the way home - Cobwebs well and truly blown away!
And so it continues - a dozen new songs joined by a dramatic hell for leather instrumental in Whitesnake's "Belgian Toms Hat Trick" and closing with a stunning version of Steppenwolf's,"Born To Be Wild".
They play with great power, they deserve more glory, no one listening to "Been There, Done That" could disagree.
