A dark dynamic atmospheric masterpiece that simmers around almost whispered brooding verses, exploding into a massive soaring chorus that could only be Gary Numan.
A mixture of distorted industrial beats, tinted by beautifuly placed synth lines and giant slabs of heavily compressed guitars. Powerful, melodic and hypnotic with a wonderfully dreamy and surprisingly juxtaposed middle eight.
Gary Numan really pulls himself away from the rest of the field with this one and delivers a special single only he can do and only he can do with sheer class and originality.
Quite where this dark place is, well, it may be the hell, it may be a state of mind, an hallucination, a harsh reality, a calling from the devil or god himself or it may be the path to the ultimate self enlightenment.
Either way, it certainly is very gripping, entrancing, edgy and intriguing stuff.
Given the right exposure "In a dark place" should be a surefire winner with anyone who loves their pop music dark, moody, different, magnificent, meaningful and truely on the alternative side. However, it's planned limited pressing may not reach all it's potential audience but will surely add to it's cult appeal.
Check out the highly recommended album "Jagged" too.

It's funny...no matter what Gary Numan does he seems to always be wrong - the poor bloke can't win!
I would imagine that the people who have already reviewed this are "fans" who already had the album - so if you didn't like the song why buy the single and whinge about it ?

Anyway...In A Dark Place is one of the better tracks from his current album Jagged. It's backed with an alternate version of Fold (which was previously only available as a bonus track on the US version of Jagged) and also includes the promo video. It's also available as a limited edition 7" vinyl picture disk and an Ade Fenton remix is available as a download from iTunes.

The song is dark and atmospheric...starting out slowly with Numan's softly spoken vocal which leads up to a heavier (and more tuneful) dual-layer chorus.

For anyone still stuck in the late 70s, early 80s, waiting for Numan to get the Minimoog out...save your money, this isn't for you...Gary Numan's moved on!
