4.0 out of 5 stars You always need a spare!, 3 Feb 2004
I have two of these for my DX6490 camera. There's one included with the camera itself, and it offers very good life. Be careful to distinguish this 1700mAh battery from the shorter-life 1050mAh version on the market. With the DX6490, you can expect around 125-210 photos with the 1700mAh, but 30% fewer with the 1050. So buy a spare one, and here's two good reasons why:

(1) Because the charger supplied with the DX6490 requires you to remove the battery from the camera before charging. So firstly you lose the date and time settings from the camera, and also you can't use the camera whilst the battery is charging. These problems are solved if you have the camera dock, but that's overkill to be honest.

(2) Because the DX6490 gives you very little notice that the battery is soon to run dry. And you can bet it'll die just when you need it most.

The batteries are small and light, and take just over 2 hours to charge. On the whole, they're 100 times better than rechargeable AA's, and don't work out expensive when you consider the amount of use they'll get.

5.0 out of 5 stars There is more to this little battery, 16 Aug 2004
I have a Kodak DX7630 and was finding it hard to find the compactable Li-ion Rechargeable battery for it.
Anyway to cut a long story short this battery advertised for the DX6490 will also fit the DX7630 and Kodak states it is also compatible with DX7590 & DX7440.
For under £20 you can't go wrong, If you only have the one supplied with the camera once its exhausted and you wait up to 2-3hrs for it to charge you have had it, That snap of a lifetime could be gone for good and once you replace it "Oh no I've got to set the time & date" I don't Know about the other Models but with the DX7630 once the battery was replaced as soon as the other one was removed the date & time was not affected.
Anyway it down to you! But for me it was money well spent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the investment, 13 Feb 2005
By I. P. Gearing "slightly_fazed" (Bristol UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I own a Kodak DX7440 (thoroughly recommend it to any prospective digital compact camera buyer) and though the standard battery is OK, it isn't quite long lasting enough to inspire confidence that it will last all the way trhough my 512mb sd card's capacity and have enough juice to upload. I have tried it once so far on a cold day, both indoors and out, using flash, burst and 640x480 video with some deletions and review. Lasted over 200 shots with approximately 10 minutes of video and powered an upload from camera to laptop.

Worth the purchase, and you can keep the 1050 mAh battery that comes with the camera as a handy backup.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spare Battery for Kodak DX 7590
Identical battery supplied with the camera, KLIC 5001 1700 mAh. Good value and saves time waiting for the other battery to charge up each time.
