This is a fantastic new album of original music from Zoe Rahman. It's a real development from her debut `The Cynic`. Featuring a core trio of fine musicians, Oli Hayhurst on double bass and Gene Calderazzo on drums, Zoe takes the listener through a wide aural spectrum whilst still retaining the very distinctive `sound` and personal `touch` she established on `The Cynic`. There are also some excellent performances from guest contributors, Track 4 `The Calling` (first heard on Clark Tracey Quintet's debut) gets a new and exciting `afro-beat` treatment from the excellent Jeremy Brown on double bass and Patrick Illingworth on drums. The final track `Muchhe Jaoa Dinguli` is a lovely arrangement of a Bengali song by the renowned composer Hemant Mukherjee and features the haunting clarinet of Zoe's brother Idris Rahman (co-leader of `Soothsayers` who also mixed this album) and the subtle udu (clay pot) playing of Adriano Adewale Itauna. Overall a beautiful album from start to finish and highly recommended.
