5.0 out of 5 stars Time saving SAD treatment that works!, 3 Nov 2009
This review is from: Apollo Health goLITE p1 Light Therapy with Deluxe Carrying Case (Personal Care)
I have had SAD for over 20 years and have used a traditional 10,000 lux light box until 1 year ago. I found that with the traditional light box I was having to use it for 2 hours a day to get enough treatment to live a better winter. I invested in one of these golite P1 lightboxes and only need to use it for 30 mins. a day. I was very sceptical about it's effectiveness and expected to have to return it under it's 30 day return. However, it worked and I am sitting here a year later feeling as good with 30 mins. with the golite as I did with 2 hours with a traditional light box. So if you have really bad SAD, this could work for you, just as it has for me.
Obviously it doesn't bring about a cure, but gets rid of the drowsy, slightly drunk feeling I have with SAD and also enables concentration to improve along with more energy. I certainly don't feel as good as I do in the Summer but with this light at least I can manage better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than a light box, but get the M2 model, 8 Jan 2008
By Dr. P. D. Rudman (Oxford, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've used a "normal" light box for some 10 years. It means I can fall asleep at bed time during the winter instead of several hours later. I've tried the P1 instead of the lightbox for two months now, and I have to say that this little blue-light gizmo is just as effective for me as the lightbox.

It's also portable, which means if I go away for a week in winter I can still sleep normally. I find a setting of 75% for 20 minutes each morning at 2-3 metres from my eyes is best (I put it on the floor about a metre from my feet - don't stare at it, just keep it visible).

The only negative I found is that the LCD display is really faint, and I can't find a "contrast control", but it's readable, and there's nothing much to read anyway. I suspect the price will come down over time, as it's a new type of product and the components are not at all expensive.

Nonetheless, it's competitive with the "big" light boxes, and does seem to do the job well. They also do an "M2" model that has built-in rechargable batteries. I think this would be better as portability is one of it's benefits.

5.0 out of 5 stars Made a huge difference to my mornings, 25 Nov 2009
This review is from: Apollo Health goLITE p1 Light Therapy with Deluxe Carrying Case (Personal Care)
I have suffered from SAD for years, but it got significantly worse this Autumn. I finally caved in and bought a GoLite, making sure it was recommended by one of the SAD support organisations.

It made a difference to me in a couple of weeks. I have been using it every morning for 15 mins, and now I find I am waking earlier naturally as well as feeling more alert.

It's small enough to take with you to work if you don't have time to use it at home, and with several different programmable options it is flexible to your needs.

Highly recommended!
