Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

No larger than a baseball and priced with affordability in mind, the StreetPilot i3 GPS navigation system is a great fit for commuters, college students, and corporate travelers looking to experience the ease and enjoyment of satellite navigation for the first time. Don't let the small size fool you; the i3 boasts many of the same powerful functions as Garmin's premium vehicle GPS navigators. The StreetPilot i3 features a unique and convenient click-to-enter scroll wheel and a Back button that makes it easy to select a destination from the unit's menu-driven interface. It also offers voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions through a built-in speaker, and should you miss a turn, the i3 will automatically recalculate the route to put you back on course. And perhaps most conveniently, the unit moves easily from vehicle to vehicle thanks to the integrated suction cup mount, so you don't need to go through a cumbersome process each time you change cars.

As an added benefit, you can now import customized points of interest with the help of Garmin's free POI Loader software. For instance, you can upload safety cameras or school zones, and then receive a warning if you are traveling too fast in these areas. In addition, an optional proximity-alert feature notifies you of upcoming custom POIs. Maps are displayed on the i3's 32,000-color, sunlight-readable TFT, which includes a backlight for difficult lighting conditions. Motorists even have the choice of multiple perspectives--either a 3-D mapping angle or an overhead bird's-eye view. For added convenience, drivers can power the unit with either two AA batteries (six hours, typical use) or the included 12-volt adapter cable.

The StreetPilot i3 measures 3 by 2.74 by 2.15 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Used To Get Lost Sometimes, 26 Feb 2006
By D. Holmes "dinoh" (London) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
Couldnt believe the price as have preciously refused to consider paying more than £200 for sat nav and preferd free printed directions from internet

other reviews helped decision when i saw advertised elsewhere

Can only say if this is bottom of the range then top must actually drive you there itself

    cant fault at all

No set up time - works fine out of box

full postcode plus extras pre porgrammed

i have been to and would recommend garmin website as mentioned in other reviews to download update and 'extras' which include speed camera postions worth getting end up with everything you could need attraction in the uk
    (hotels/petrol/cinema/theatre/hospitals/museums/bank ATM's/swimming pools/pubs/football grounds and much more)

even speed limit changes beep at you if your going too fast with update (though can be annoying) it does all i hoped and more

is good with alternate routes which is very handy

have tried to fool - not always knows every short cut (Im in west london)
can take a minute or 2 to adjust if go 'off route' but will catch up eventually - if unsure i pull over and wait!

can change view to suit dependant on tbe journey

have had a month and nothing i can think of that i could need it doesnt do - just clip on and off (i have next to rear view mirror with no intrusion - is tiny)

i even had a tyre problem last week and it had the nearest kwik fit in the memory and took me there!

very clear screen day and night

can completely recommend - can't see why anyone would want pay more

5.0 out of 5 stars small is beautiful, 3 Jan 2006
After a little research into sat nav i went for the i3. It sticks to your windscreen and tells you exactly what to do. You don't need to spend hundreds of pounds on flash rubbish, the i3 is absolutely fantastic. It's quick at re-routing which is fairly important when you make a wrong turn and the map, although small, gives clear visual instructions. It's difficult to understand how a product that does so much costs little. It's everything you'd want it to be for less money than units that are quite poor and slow.
I'm chuffed to bits with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does exactly what it says on the tin......, 13 Mar 2006
    By A Customer
Affordable, reliable SatNav has arrived. Its one of those things that you wonder why you didn't get ages ago. No more printing out directions from the AA website; or arguments with the co-driver; or potential divorce inducing trips with your beloved assigned to read the map correctly - yeah right..!

Took it out of the box, installed 2 x AA batteries, turned it on, set my language and it took about 5 mins to initialize the unit. Stuck it to the windscreen, powered it from the 12v cigarette lighter in about 1 min flat. Then input an address (scroll wheel and buttons make this very easy and quick for postcodes etc. - a bit longer for names of streets but still painless) and it computes the route.

    ...and we're off!

Very good accuracy. I tested it on finding a caravan site in the middle of rural Yorkshire off a tiny B road and it took me to the door. Lots of volume in this tiny unit too, level 4 of 5 is too loud in my less than quiet Frontera. Unit does not dominate your view either yet screen is easily readable at a glance to back up what the voice is telling you..

Downloaded a free Points of Interest (POI) file from the net and added even more places that can be found easily.
