5.0 out of 5 stars We hear Freddie's call, though he's many years away ... an inspired collaboration, 30 Mar 2008
By Bob Sherunkle (London, UK) - See all my reviews
I got this as a present from my son. I probably would not have bought it myself. I had never heard of the Queen-Paul Rodgers collaboration, and I reserved judgement at first. Although I like Queen, I'm not a hardcore fan. I'm not that keen on live albums, and I'm wary of comeback collaborations.

However, this album is excellent. It is as good as any of the live Queen recordings I've heard, with the probable exception of the 1985 Live Aid performance.

During the set, Brian May gives Paul Rodgers a name-check as "our inspiration", which he evidently is. Rodgers makes no attempt to do a Freddie Mercury impression, though at the start of Bohemian Rhapsody he sounds uncannily close. May and Taylor are obviously gripped by Rodgers' commitment and enthusiasm, and it shows in their electrifying performance. They are helped by three excellent supporting musicians. The additional guitarist gives May extra freedom.

Freddie does make one vocal appearance, in the usual pre-recorded middle section of "Bo Rhap".

Paul Rodgers gets to perform two numbers each from his Free and Bad Co back catalogue.

This must have been a great night in Sheffield. The audience clearly enjoy themselves, and even give themselves well-deserved applause for their contribution to "Love of my life".

Has this album has given John Deacon second thoughts about his retirement?

I have only one complaint. Paul Rodgers is as old as me, so how come his voice has held out so well? It's even better now than it was in the 1970s.

Buy this, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks son.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two Hours of pure live entertainment at it's best., 15 Jun 2008
By Derrick Page "Dr.Delboy" (Uckfield. Sussex UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was a little nervoius on knowing that Paul Rodgers was the main vocalist, singing Freddie Mercury songs. As a Queen fan I did'nt think that anybody could sing Queen songs better then Freddie, I was so wrong, Paul has sung the songs his way and it works in his style. He has not copied Freddie atall. Paul has brought the songs back to life with his own style and keeping Queen alive with new fans.

The live recording is excellent, it is just like being there in the crowd. Paul has done a few of his own song tracks from his group Free, and with the Queen backing sound it has brouht them back to life.
Roger Tayor plays "Let There Be Drums" in his style orginally played by Sandy Nelson and Roger does an excellent job.
Brian May fans will not be disapointed with his guitar solo called "Guitar Solo" and "Last Horizon".

Highly recommed Live double CD for all the family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Champions Indeed, 3 Oct 2005
By skiddly (darlington, durham United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Waited ages for this cd to come out. 2 of my favs queen and paul rodgers together was not sure what to expect but hey it really works good solid rock. The reason it works is because its not trying to replace freddie which is impossible but paul with his own unique vocals cant wait for the dvd to arrive absolute brill!
