Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

This Limited Edition CD + DVD version comes in gatefold packaging that displays any one of four images depending on how it is folded shut. Drop an anvil at the recording of Demon Days, the celeb-packed second album from Gorillaz – the Technicolor front for Blur's Damon Albarn, producer Dan the Automator, artist Jamie Hewlett, and rapper Del Tha Funky Homosapien – and you'd probably have crushed a half-dozen B-list musicians, a couple of style icons, and the odd Hollywood star besides. Given that it's been co-produced by Dangermouse, creator of copyright-flaunting hip-hop epic The Grey Album, you'd be right to suspect many of these are rappers: Daisy Age legends De La Soul add zing to the tweaked disco-hop of "Feel Good Inc", while Roots Manuva adds a touch of brooding introspection to the juddering "All Alone". But there's some strange surprises, too: a cameo from Dennis Hopper, whose monologue on "Fire Coming Out Of The Monkey's Head" is an eerie highlight; ex-Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder, who rambles along enjoyably on "DARE" – even though he never gets much further than announcing the song's title; or the welcome return of Neneh Cherry, who joins Albarn in song with a snatch of Salt N Pepa's "Push It" on the menacing "Kids with Guns". A dark return from these dedicated culture vultures, but thankfully, not at the expense of their cartoonish pop presence. --Louis Pattison

5.0 out of 5 stars Devilishly Good Demon Days, 3 Jan 2006
By Eggtimer "Eggtimer" (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Superb concept album again from the Gorillaz with their characteristically innovative style and approach to reworking music for maximum impact. A must have for anyone with a spark of imagination.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't monkey about, buy this album now., 2 Jun 2005
I got into Gorillaz through a friend of mine who really liked them. I used to really love Blur, but was put off the Gorillaz by all the cartoon tom-foolery. However I bought both 'Gorillaz' and 'G-Sides' last year and it was about 6 months until I actually listened to them properly. What had I been missing out on!

It was after this that I first started to hear about 'Demon Days' and got rather excited. The album was well worth waiting for, it develops everything on the previous album, including the re-mix/b-side album 'G-Sides'. The production and quality of each track is so beautifully crafted - it's too good for pop. Also worth listening to is the 'Grey Album' by DJ Danger Mouse which mixed the Beatles White Album with Jay-Z's Black Album - you won't find it in the shops though for copyright reasons.

On the album are a couple of stand-out tracks, for me the best after only a few listens are:

"Feel Good Inc." - the Gorillaz are back. This was the first single from the album and the one that ticks all the right Gorillaz boxes. It's cool, funky and the rap over the top pushes the band up a notch.

"Dare", which is my favourite track off the album. I heard it once and it's been stuck in my head for over a week now. If this isn't the next single off the album I'll eat my hat.

"Don't get lost in heaven", which is basically the Gorlillaz do the Beach Boys. I thought this was the most bizarre song on the album when I first heard it but it's really grown on me now.

Essentially this is the album to listen to over the summer. I bought the version with the extra DVD and to be honest unless you're mad keen for the 'Feel Good Inc' video I can't really recommend it. Nice work G-Boys and Girls.

4.0 out of 5 stars Damon Daze, 24 May 2005
It's great to see Gorillaz back at it again. Like their first album Damon and co. have used just about every object and that make a sound and put it all together with a great selection of guest rappers and singers to produce another unique and inspired experience.
