The Return of Danzig,
This review is from: Circle of Snakes (Audio CD)
This is the 5th best album but has some of the best songs on. My personal favourite is Black Angel White Angel which would probably make it onto a Danzig Best of album. Circle of Snakes, When we were dead and 1000 devils reign are also outstanding songs. No really weak songs, but some are certainly better than others. He hasn't gone back to his bluesy style but the song writing is far superior to anything since 4p. I am very impressed with this and I'm glad that if he's ending his career now (there are rumours about him concentrating on acting and directing), it is with an album of this quality. Although I hope he doesn't because it sounds like he's found a style that works again.

Danzig - Halfway to Hellbent!,
By Lloyd "Lloyd" (UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Circle of Snakes (Audio CD)
A true return to form from the god of heavy metal music! Danzig everybody! This beats the previous Luciferi release by a mile, is just that bit better than satan's child and blackacidevil was different so i cant really say is better. Obviously the first 4 albums wil always be the best to true fans of Danzig like myself but this isnt the original Danzig albums! Its the closest you ill get to the origional sound of danzig 1, lucifuge, how the gods kill and danzig 4 and thats it. But its the best since 4. Anyway the album itself...The album starts with a pointless Wotans Procession. Hrm not a good start. But then it finally finishes and in kicks the wickedSkincarver! Thats more like it Demon MF's! Circle of snakes is more of the same but has the already classic Halfway to hellbent chorus! YES! THIS IS TRUE DANZIG! PURE EVIL! Next theres the classic 1000 Devils reign, trhe first song anyone heard off the new album! Classic tune but Glenns voice is way low and dull. Oh well its Danzig! Next theres my favourite of the album, Skull Forest! The darkest and most evil Danzig song since stalker song on 4! This album is really starting to pick up now! This album does not let up, as hellmasks first searing riff kicks in and causes an outrageous headbanging session! When we were dead is a classic danzig track but is really more of the same. Night Besodem seriously rocks the house and My Darkness is a bit like night besodom. Nether bound is yet another awesome heavy riffage track to make your ears bleed but really, this next and final track is the one to knock you flying and saying, dude, this is danzig 2 all over again. SHEER BLISS! Black Angel white angel is the real standout track here man! Heavy quick riffage and awesome lyrics just ginish this killer album off in true DANZIG style! Listen to me, BUY THIS ALBUM! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!

Circle of Snakes,

I would give this album 4 and a half stars as its nearly perfect. I do think that this record would be better if it was produced by a well-known producer than Glenn himself. Anyway, on with the review.1. Wotan's Procession - 6/10 - Good intro, nothing amazing. 2. Skincarver - 9/10 - Easily one of the heaviest Danzig tracks to date. The double bass blast beats made this a Heavy encounter. The vocal melody is very diffent with an envolving chorus throughout the song. 3. Circle of Snakes - 8/10 - Took time to grow on me, the riff is very simliar to Twist of Cain. It's a good song but thats it. I think this is the first single off the album as it has a video out. I do like the singing very much though. 4.1000 Devils Reign - 10/10 - I think this is one of the best songs on the album. The drums are similiar to Chuck's style. This song has a bad ass start stop riff and softly sung vocals from Glenn. 5. Skull Forrest - 8/10 - Good song, very dark lyrics (the whole albuim has pretty dark lyrics) the solo is very good. 6. Hellmask - 7/10 - This song is fast with an extremely insane solo, the thing that i don't like about this song is Glenn's vocals they seem forced. 7. When We Were Dead - 10/10 - I love this song its a got a proper doom metal style to it, the riff is one of the best on the album. I would say if you don't like this song you won't like the album, but thats just me. Night, BeSodom - 10/10 - Another killer, the second half the album takes it up a notch i reckon. This song reminds of Children of the Grave by Sabbath for some reason. It has a bassline like Bodies in the middle as well. I like the sound of Glenn's voice on this song. This is a groovey track. My Darkness - 6/10 - Worst song on the album, if the verse wasn't sung as good as it was, i would skip this track everytime. The chorus is annoying. Netherbound - 8/10 - Seems a really sad song, nothing much to say about this song it's just really good. Black Angel, White Angel - 10/10 - Yep this song is good, the vocals are like the olden golden days. This wouldn't be on the album if it was themed like the previous seven albums as Glenn said it was too upbeat. If you don't like this song at all i don't think you will ever be a danzig a fan. Overall the album is pretty good and it's worth a try for non-danzig fans and essential if you are a fan of any of his musical work.
