4.0 out of 5 stars A Return to form, 21 Oct 2005
After the wilderness years of simon wright on drums, and then Chris Slade (who did a decent job), and the cock rock staduim filling era of the razors edge, AC DC returned with Phil Rudd on drums. This album is a return to the glory days of powerage and let there be rock, no nonsense blues ballsy rock filled with carry-on eseque double entrendres and amazing riffs. I was really suprised by how good this album is hail ceaser, ballbreaker, hard as a rock and the furor are as good ads the late 70s hey days. This songs fit well into the live set. Brian Johnson said in an interview having Phil back on drums was like fitting into your favorite jeans, comfortable. He's bloody right this is the best albums since back in black

5.0 out of 5 stars AC/DC at there ballbreaking best!!, 21 Jul 2004
By I. J. Caddick (Wales) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Having been fortunate enough to capture the bands performance in Manchester on the BallBreaker world tour'96.I rushed out the following day & bought the BallBreaker cd,raced home & played it & when I closed my eyes I felt like I was still in the arena!!My ears were ringing for days!! The polished & commercial Razors Edge cd has been replaced with a more down & dirty blues feel. The opening track,"hard as a rock",is a superb melodic track that reminds me of the same groove as "Sin City".Track 2,"Cover you in oil", is a real slow burning sleazy blues number that you could well imagine the late great Bon Scott slurring to!! Even "The boogie man" has a dirty gritty feel to it that again you could imagine Bon singing it in his day. All 11 cuts on this cd are completely listenable, which cant be said for earlier AC/DC efforts. in my mind though the album titled track"BallBreaker",is the standout point as the band go for broke with the heaviest crunching riff they have produced in years!! Johnson hollers his guts out with ferocious intensity which is something i dont think he's done since 1984's "Flick of the switch". Everything about this cd is good, even the packaging is superb, with the album cover depicting Angus Young strutting Across a huge ball in between some gothic setting!! well worth buying,in my opinion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ac/dc return to their roots, 23 Jan 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Ballbreaker (Audio CD)
Ballbreaker, the most recent Ac/dc studio album, sees the original rockers return to their bluesy roots in bombastic style. While Razor's edge had an altogether more stadium-friendly, commercial sound, this collection of choice cuts is less polished and all the better for it. The opening track "Hard As A Rock" sees Angus and company resurrect the ghost of Bon Scott in a ballsy rocker that would surely have brought a tear to the great man's eye. The fine form is continued on "Cover You In Oil", which revolves around one of the grooviest riffs ever to have exploded from a guitar. The themes explored on the album typically involve tales of hard drinking ("Whiskey On The Rocks"), tough men ("Boogie Man") and even tougher women ("Ballbreaker"). There's nothing too original here then, but Ac/dc have never claimed to be anything but hard rockin' riff monsters who tap into the seedier elements of rock star living. This is not quite a classic, but great stuff none the less. Music to break balls by.
