The Rock n' Roll Monster - and don't mention the Darkness..., 27 Jul 2004
It's hard to review this album as just an "album". The EES experience goes far far beyond that. This cult band have toured the world exhaustively for over 7 years now culminating in this re-recorded version of their fabulous "Go America" / "Slayer's Bay Blues" albums. If you haven't seen them live yet, then you probably don't own the CD. If you have - then you do. And you probably bought the t-shirt, the badge and fell in love with this furious Japanese trio. Whilst Aki is a formidable frontman and guitarist, Gian and Kazuto are complete performers in their own right and all their performances have been captured on this record. The record itself sounds like Black Sabbath dry humping Eddie from Iron Maiden whilst Mr Van Halen watches on with a proud tear in his eye. This is a form of "garage-punk" but don't label it - EES defy categorisation. I can compare them to no other band that I have ever heard or seen. The songs are sung in a combination of English, Chinese and Japanese....at least I think so. From the crazy overdriven pop of "Rock n' Roll can rescue the world" to the almost Judas-Priest like insanity of "Do The Metal" - the music of "Go Europe" will keep you rocking. And it won't let go. Unlike so many other albums that come and go, EES deliver the performances to keep you coming back. They may not ever be the biggest thing to hit this planet, but they sure should be.
