5.0 out of 5 stars Just what your Mother wanted., 29 July 2009
By P. V. Davis (London) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Kitchen Craft Tinned Heavy Duty Potato Ricer (Kitchen & Home)
I'd been looking for something like this for ages and when it arrived, I could see right away that it was similar to the one my Mother used for years and raised a family on her mighty mashed potato.

This is a heavy weight product and one which should be in every Kitchen, unlike the puny little round one which I found useless and which ended up in the back of my drawer. This item looks and feels robust; holds a lot more and because it's weight and design give it more power in your elbow; is much easier to use.

Keenly priced; worth it and I'd bet: every bit as good as the astronomically priced similar ones which boast about quality but wont do better performance wise than this one.

Your Mother would love one.

1.0 out of 5 stars stick to a masher!, 29 Sep 2009
By W. Wild "mum to 6" (Lancs, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Kitchen Craft Tinned Heavy Duty Potato Ricer (Kitchen & Home)
Needing a new potato masher and seeing the excellent reviews on here for this, I thought I'd give it a try. As soon as it arrived, I was a little dubius. Though nice and solid, the finish is quite rough. I tried it that evening and found that potato squeezed out through the joint between the well and the handle (lumpy potato!), not only that but I was contstantly re-engaging the handle as it fell off every time I lifted the handle to add more potato. The mash wasn't bad, but it had more lumps in it than it would if I'd just used a masher and it took longer to make. Worse than this, it's a nightmare to clean! It comes apart easily and at first glance it seemed to be clean in a matter of seconds...then I noticed that there is a groove all of the way round the INSIDE of the well which was full of mash and ten minutes and several brushes and scourers later, I was still chasing bits of potato around this groove! I can't imagine why this thing has had such good reviews...I've now bought a new, silicone coated steel masher for less than a third of the price and it produces excellent mash! The ricer is consigned to the back of the drawer and will, no doubt, find it's way into the bin very shortly!
