There's nothing original about Young Heart Attack, but that hardly matters, because Mouthful of Love is a near-perfect rock & roll album. Bursting with manic energy right from the outset, this Austin, Texas band rip through a 10-song set that sounds like all the best bits of 1970s American rock (with a fair amount of AC/DC thrown in for good measure). So "Starlite" starts out with a keyboard nicked from Cheap Trick before pounding drums drag the whole thing to its anthemic, guitar-soaked conclusion ("I gotta feel like a man / don't you understand?").

This is riff-heavy road music, rawer than the Darkness's debut, but hewn from the same rock (and with a bit more Angus Young to temper the Brian May sound--"Over and Over" even borrows a bit of Young's "TNT"). The addition of second vocalist Jennifer Stephen is a nice touch, tempering the boys' club aspects of a sweaty rock band with a dash of classic girl-group style; the fact that she looks like a Hooters waitress doesn't hurt the band's image, either. Mouthful of Love is everything a rock & roll album should be: sexy, threatening, full of bravado and totally danceable. --Robert Burrow

'Mouthful Of Love' is the debut full-length for Texan six piece Young Heart Attack. Mixing up raw AC/DC style rock with60's pop melodies the album is retro in style but still unique and progressive. Combining three guitars and simple harmonies, the band bridge the gap between contempary hard-rock and indie acts. The album includes the singles 'Misty Rowe' and 'Over And Over'.

Young Heart Attack - Mouthful of Love

For their first album YHA really have pulled out all the stops because this really is one hell of a rock'n'roll roller coaster of an album. YHA hail from Texas and when listening to their album you really do get the feel that effortless Texan swagger.

One of the things that makes YHA so unique is that they have both a male and female vocalist. Instead of one singing half the songs and the other the other half, they take turns within most of the songs. Almost as if they are competing all the way through the song to see who can make the best rock and roll screeches. The end result is barrages of ferocious all-out rock songs such as "Over and Over" and "Starlite" which are quite simply brilliant.

Although the singles such as Tommy shots and Mouthful of love give the impression YHA is just a full out rock as hard as you can band. They also make sure you know they can kick back and slow it right down through songs such as the superb Mary Jane. Hopefully YHA will be around for a long time to come as they are exactly the kick up the back side rock and roll so badly needs. They have certainly set the benchmark high for their next album to live up to, but with what seems to be such an effortless and cracking album I believe they will.

If you like The Datsuns, The Darkness or Jet's debut efforts you will love this.

I saw this lot supporting Motorhead last year and they clearly stood out from the others on the bill. They made you realise the difference between sincere, quality music & an excuse for it -The Wildhearts were next on the bill and were embarrassing in comparison.

The album is a breath of fresh air. Clearly the band have listened to AC/DC once or twice, but that's no bad thing and this stuff sits pretty comfortably with the best that the Angus et al have to offer. There are one or two tracks that are not as good as the others but when the album as a whole is so good then that's a minor point.

I've listened to rock n' roll of the harder variety for about 25 years and you know when a band is a cut above the average. This lot has stardom written all over them. If you could buy shares in bands I'd put my house on them.

This is old fashioned guitar oriented rock very much in the mould of the Black Crowes, AC/DC and the like
The lyrics are nothing to write home about (Girls/Rock n roll etc etc) but musically the songs are well crafted and the execution is pretty good without being showy.
But what really distinguishes Young Heart Attack from being run-of the mill rock-radio filler material is the excellent harmony/counter singing between the male and female lead singers.

With the current vogue for guitar rock, YHA may do pretty well, but in any event this album is worth a spin.
Something that is worth noting is that the CD clocks in at a meagre 34 minutes .
