1.0 out of 5 stars Missing the Beat, 16 Aug 2007
By Quiverbow (Kent, England) - See all my reviews

Ten of the 25 tracks here are already available on a zillion other releases and those that remain hardly encompass 'Merseybeat'. OK, this CD won't cost much but then you don't get that much for your money anyway. In typical EMI style, what text there is within the insert doesn't tell you what you really want to know: when the song was recorded, how it came about, the personnel on the track, what happened to the artist after. They may have been limited to their own labels, but I'm sure the compilers of this could have found far more worthwhile tracks in the vaults.

Sanctuary's 'Beat Beat Beat' is far superior, but then Pye seemed to sign just about anyone at the time, whilst the 'Unearthed Merseybeat' series on Viper outperforms everything else on offer..

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice sleeve shame aboout the content, 20 Aug 2008

On this CD are the "antholgised-to-death" alongside the "first time out".In other words what is it setting out to prove? You have Gerry's 3 No 1s and obscurities by the groups heard in Ferry Acoss The Mersey. You have the only title produced by Brian Epstein-America (from West Side Story) by Rory Storm & the Hurricanes.
Really needed 2 CDs to seperate the flops from the hits as the flops were many times more interesting.
If you're looking for the hits few of them are here.
But I know how they compile these CDs.They have a list in front of them of every disc made by a Liverpool act and they stick pins in.
How else could you explain 3 Searchers' songs being 2 hits and a B side ?
