I just finished listening to this album for the second time after getting it this morning, and it is incredible. I wasn't sure how good it would be as i had only heard one song and Kerrang had given it an average review, but they were wrong!
It's true that this album isn't incredibly original, but is still very, very good. 'Back from the Grave' starts with an atmospheric, eerie intro and then explodes into opener 'Rise', the track i had heard which made me decide to buy this album. The album then thunders through forty minutes of unrelentingly heavy metal before finishing in a similar style. The sound quality and production are surprisingly good, the guitars sound incredible. The pace of this album is perfect, fast but not too fast, and very heavy but also with a crystal clear sound. Despite being for the most part traditional black metal, there are some interesting and original elements, including weird 80's style synthesisers on the last track, which actually sound surprisingly effective.
If you want my advice (why else would you read this), if you have any interest in black metal at all, buy this album.
