Product Description

CD Description

Although young Jason Mraz's percussive acoustic guitar rhythms, tumbling verbiage, and funk/folk/jazz/pop concoctions may occasionally bear echoes of John Mayer and Dave Matthews, that's only one part of a bigger musical story as realised on the singer-songwriter's debut album WAITING FOR MY ROCKETTO COME. "Absolutely Zero", for instance, is a sophisticated, atmospheric ballad that bears echoes of Jeff Buckley and Coldplay. With its sunny horns, wah-wah guitar, and bouncy groove, "No Stopping Us" sounds like a lost '70s AM pop classic. "I'll Do Anything" alternates a rock chorus with a percolating reggae feel on the verses. And while the aforementioned Mayer and Matthews are admittedly predisposed toward a somewhat mumbling vocal style, Mraz sports a strong, bright voice loaded with both range and personality, making it that much easier for him to glide from style to style throughout the album.

5.0 out of 5 stars nothing to say but 'wow'!, 2 Oct 2003
I was introduced to Jason Mraz by a couple of people. Some American friends of mine who knew how much I loved John Mayer (a LOT!) told me I should listen to him, then my brother brought the album back from the US and played it to me. The following day I bought a copy for myself. Mraz's sound is perfect American acoustic rock, in the same vein as Dave Matthews and co.
Usually I'm a bit of a poptart - if you look at my record collection it's full of boybands and girlie singers, so this is a bit of a departure into 'real' music for me. But the thing is, this has universal appeal so it doesn't matter what kind of music you usually listen to. I think, given the right publicity, 'waiting for my rocket to come' will be one of those albums like Dido's 'No Angel' and Alanis's 'Jagged Little Pill', if you look long enough you'll find a copy in every household in the country.
You can't help but be amazed by this album, true songwriting talent and a great voice, and an album where every track is as good as the next. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy This CD!!!, 22 Mar 2003
A wonderfully new and fresh sound from Jason Mraz. After seeing him live supporting Tracy chapman, I was intrigued and decided to buy my copy from reliable Amazon.co.uk. And wow! Jason didnt let me down. The amazing combinations and concoctions of so many different styles of music give us something you will never have heard before. Think rock, jazz, soul, country and western (to name a few), thrown in with a bit of upbeat and funky styles and Jasons fantastically varied singing vocals. Every song on the album is different from the other, each with individual qualities, some upbeat like the fabulous " Curbside Prophet", some like the wonderful "You And I Both" with a slower tempo, but each guarantees a superb and un-missable first album. What A great buy and definately going to be recommended to everyone i see, whatever taste of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars A much needed breath of fresh air for the uk!, 23 May 2003
Just happened to listen to Remedy first...WOW. This track made me think oh i think ive listened to the best track already, nop the whole albumn has got something to offer. The lyrics and music combine to make a beautiful sound thatll make anyone smile. I think the main reason for this being such a strong album is Jasons absolutely amazing voice, this really is a talent that cannot be taught, this can be heard by listening to his live performances (included on the rare and hard to find live at Java Joes record). My previous top spot was with Adam Duritz from the also amazing Counting Crows.Jason Mraz is that level of greatness and i have no doubt he will continue and follow in their footsteps, a legend in the making. BUY THIS ALBUM.
