Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

From the first keening harmonies of ‘Cathy’s Clown’ through to ‘Baby What You Want Me To Do’, this Everly Brothers’ compilation may not cover new ground, but as a document of the brothers’ country leanings, it’s a fine album. The early hits like ‘Wake Up Little Susie’ may be absent, but more room is provided for lesser known fare like ‘Bowling Green’ or Roger Miller’s ‘Burma Shave’. That isn’t to say that there’s no hits on here; the band’s definitive reading of the title track is a certain highlight and puts nearly every other rendition in the shadows; the brotherly harmonies and proto-country rock backing showing their obvious influence on some of the Byrds, especially the solo work of Gene Clark and Gram Parsons, to name but two. And some of these singles are truly some of the greatest ever committed to tape- ‘Cathy’s Clown’ for example, is a true slice of power pop that matches Phil Spector for intensity and heartbreak, while ‘Gone Gone Gone’ is likely the definitive country-rock song. This CD promises to be the first volume of an Everly’s collection, and there’s plenty more to be shown, but even on its’own, this is a fine introduction. – Thom Allott

CD Description

This comprehensive collection of material by the US close harmony duo who shot to fame in the 1950's includes six tracks which reached the no.1 spot in the UK singles chart. It replaces Warner's 1996 'Walk Right Back' collection and includes their early singles on the London label.

5.0 out of 5 stars From the fifties to the eighties, 11 Oct 2003

(#1 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
There have been many Everly Brothers compilations, usually covering different periods of their career. Just occasionally, a compilation is released that spans their career and this double CD almost qualifies as one of them. Actually, almost all the tracks here are from their recordings with Cadence in the fifties and Warner in the sixties, though On the wings of a nightingale (from 1984) has been included. Their wonderful but unsuccessful seventies recordings are missing but this collection is aimed at the casual buyer who is mainly looking for hits – and that's exactly what they will get here.

All the classics are here including Bye bye love, Wake up little Susie, All I have to do is dream, Till I kissed you, Let it be me, Cathy's clown, So sad, Walk right back, Ebony eyes, Temptation, Crying in the rain and Price of love, together with many other fine songs including several minor hits that are often overlooked but deserve to be heard – songs like It's my time, released in the late sixties when the brothers were no longer fashionable.

All these tracks are available elsewhere though some are not easy to find. This is a superb collection with no serious omissions. If you only want one collection of Everly music, this one has everything you will need.

5.0 out of 5 stars DON & PHIL, 9 Mar 2003
By David J. Wilson (Douglas,, Isle of Man, Great Britain) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
At last, a comprehensive anthology of the Everly Brothers' hit singles! As a devout fan of their unique sound, I have been buying their music since the 1960s. My vinyl albums and singles were played constantly. For many years I have been trying to get a CD that contains all their hits rather than just a selected few. This double CD has the lot, including the rareties from the end of their career like "Milk Train", "Yves", "It's My Time" and "Lord Of The Manor". Buy this, and wallow in the nostalgia of those wonderful Everly harmonies which sound just as good today as they ever did!

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate Everly's compilation - at last!, 6 Aug 2003
For years it was impossible to get all The Everly Brothers' hits on one compilation, no doubt in large part because they changed record labels in 1960. However, at long last, all their chart hits from the '50's and '60's are brought together in one exhaustive and comprehensive compilation, and a great joy to listen to it is too. If you're looking for an Everly Brothers' greatest hits compilation, this is the one! You definitely won't regret buying this collection.
