Synopsis

Three strange tales inspired by Edgar Allen Poe and directed by European Cinema giants. 'Metzengerstein' is the story of a woman who sets fire to a stable and kills her cousin. 'William Wilson' is the story of an Austrian officer who kills and then commits suicide. 'Toby Dammit' tells of a British film star who, on the way home from a party, loses his head in a car accident.

Yes, there is an english-language version of the "TOBY DAMMIT" segment of this 3 story film. The IMAGE ENTERTAINMENT region 1 release has this as an option on the menu,BUT the quality of the audio track is so poor as to render it useless. It is not properly synched, it is muffled and there are drop outs where words disappear. It sounds like theres a car radio on somewhere, but if hearing Stamp speak english in a foreign language film is important, buy that version.

There IS an English language version of the film "Toby Dammit", and this one is NOT it!!! To miss out on Terence Stamps ACTUAL performance in favor of some VERY poor overdubbing is practically a crime for this cinematic gem/masterpiece, very much in the vein of bergmans's seventh seal, an exceptional man plays with death, with Terence Stamp delivering a SCATHINGLY visceral performance as a drunken cinema star of bent personality, and unlimited fame and self hatred. "Gutteral, visceral,...-British!!!"
