Return of the Kings, 23 Jul 2000

The mighty BAL-SAGOTH are back! Yes, the true masters of symphonic fantasy metal have returned with a new opus, this time on Nuclear Blast. This is their 4th album, and it's an incredible journey to the limits of imagination and beyond.... OK, here are the basics.... this band play a kind of extreme black metal with orchestral keyboards and epic stentorian narration. They are fast, heavy and totally intense. The songs are about obscure mythology, ancient legends and the occult, all mixed with fantasy and sci-fi concepts that go towards the creation of the fictional Bal-Sagoth lyrical multiverse. This is brilliant stuff, and fans of symphonic black metal, RPG's, comics, sci-fi & fantasy will love it. Buy it today! Buy ALL their albums today! Bal-Sagoth rule!

Majestic (?) Metal, 20 Mar 2000

Yes, that's right. This is the only possible category of metal I would put Bal Sagoth. From the moment you press play on your cd till the moment you wake from the stellar fantasy, this and the other magnanimous epics of this band engulf you. Totally. This band is one of the reasons people say that in this music genre there are many fantastic musicians. The modern black metal sound is combined with epic classical music that would make Wagner resign his title of epic master of the classics (indeed he would plea for a part in this band should he be alive), and are brought in ultimate unison with the lyrical astral rantings of Byron, who does a perfect job in lifting your mind... to the stars...Simply MAJESTIC. The best track? Of Carnage and a Gathering of the Wolves. I don't know how the guys do it, but yes, when you listen to this music you are lifted to the stars. And don't think these are the rantigs of a schoolkid that bought the album yesterday and is still in jubilant excitement. Nope. I am a Molecular Biologist doing a PhD and I have been listening to this album since October '99 (March 2K now). It is simply perfect. If you are a power metaller, black metaller, like atmospheric metal or even gothic metal, you WILL be lost in the masterful orchestrations of this band. NOT a waste of money, but ian investment to be proud on. Hey, these guys should pay me for advertising! BYRON?

CELESTIAL BODIES!!!, 27 Jun 2002
And lo! The band of Brian Blessed cohorts evolve into the William Gibson world of futuristic, Star Wars inspired mayhem!!! Their fourth epic shows its release on Nuclear Blast, with the introduction of Dave Mackintosh and Mark Greenwell, as well as subliminal artwork from the imaginative, awe-inspiring psyche of one Martin Hanford! This opus is thus evidence of their unique entity, their ability to evolve and experiment within that entity and how their inspiration input-output is yet to be matched! This is truly music for a select elite, music that can only be appreciated by the broad-minded nonconformists, unafflicted and unflawed by the delusion of conformist indifference!
