5.0 out of 5 stars Nice music by nice blokes. For nice people. Nice!, 20 Sep 2001

(REAL NAME)
It's not very often a band this lovely come along. Two blokes with acoustic guitars doesn't sound too thrilling, but arm them with glorious melodies and a sweet sincerity in their hearts and well, that's Ben & Jason... In particular that's 'Emoticons', which has to be one of the unrecognised highlights of the late nineties.

If you like Turin Brakes you can thank Ben & Jason for leading the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eloquent, Emotive and Evocative Emoticons, 27 Mar 2002
I`m kicking myself for not discovering Ben & Jason earlier! Emoticons is my first album by B& J and it definitely won`t be my last. Having never heard any of their material before I was persuaded to buy Emoticons after reading an earlier review comparing them favourably to Turin Brakes. Thank God I`m easily persuaded or I`d still be missing out on the joys of Ben and Jason! With songs like Solo Air Guitar, Romeo & Juliet Are Drowning and What I Meant To Say combining simple, soulful melodies with wistful words this album is made to Play For Today!

5.0 out of 5 stars Moving and musically gifted, 10 July 2000
By hlmp100@york.ac.uk (York, England) - See all my reviews
After hearing some of the material from this album live, I was keen to get hold of it as soon as it was released. Somewhat more convoluted than the first album, but equally as moving in places. Their finest moment on this album, and possibly both albums is "Romeo and Juliet are Drowning". Ben and Jason are one of those great acts whose only fault is they do not get enough radio air-play and publicity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Acoustic elegance and brilliance throughout
These elegantly crafted popsongs are of a very high class - the dreamy Radiohead/Beatles-like tunes all make up a true masterpiece. This is one of the best albums of 1999.
