4.0 out of 5 stars UNUSUAL ROCK-JAZZ, 19 May 2003
By Pieter "Toypom" (Johannesburg) - See all my reviews
(TOP 10 REVIEWER)
Blood, Sweat and Tears very successfully explored a niche between jazz and rock and produced some memorable music in the process. They had huge hits with You’ve Made Me So Very Happy, Go Down Gamblin’, And When I Die, Spinning Wheel and Lucretia Mac Evil. But my favourite on this collection is the gentle soulful ballad Sometimes In Winter, a song that perfectly captures a mood of loneliness and regret that I believe is universal. It is atypical of the rest of their output, and very very beautiful. Another band that did the jazz-rock thing was Chicago, but Blood, Sweat and Tears was probably closer to the spirit of rock than Chicago and there’s more variation in these songs. This is an interesting collection of a rare jazz-rock experiment that seems to have died at the end of the 1960s.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blood, Sweat & Tears Greatest Hits, 14 Oct 2009
By Adrian Davis "Radarhaha" (Braintree, Essex, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I remember listening to Blood Sweat and Tears during the late 1970's and remember them being labled the best rock band with a horn section. This particular album Blood sweat & tears greatest hits demonstrates the vesatility of sound that rock music with a trumpet, saxaphone and clarinet can make. This album has a mix of blues, jazz, soulful ballads and of course some light rock. It's a refreshing album and anyone who has never heard of BS&T will be pleasantly surprised at what vesatility the band has to offer.
