4.0 out of 5 stars ****1/2 - great live album and a fine career overview, 12 Jun 2005

(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
Equipped with the unwieldy handle of "Paul Simon's Concert In The Park, August 15, 1991", this double CD finds Paul Simon backed by most of the New York session musicians and the native musicians from South Africa and Brazil who had accompanied him on "Graceland" and "The Rhythm Of The Saints".

Clocking in at almost two hours, "Concert In The Park" features excellent live versions of songs like "Graceland", "She Moves On", and "Me And Julio Down By The School Yard". Most of the arrangements stick close to the studio recordings, except for the fact that Simon has toned down the Brazilian percussion that dominated the "Saints" recordings, and re-done "Cecilia" African-style.
Paul Simon sings with style and conviction all the way through, and some of these songs are definitely better than the studio versions...just listen to the exquisite "Born At The Right Time" or the elegant "She Moves On".

The sound is very good, and "Concert" moves seamlessly between S&G-material and latter-day solo stuff. "Still Crazy After All These Years" has never sounded better, and the nine-minute "Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes" is a real treat as well.
Paul Simon fans should enjoy this fine, mellow set, and there is a lot to like for casual listeners as well.
This show was filmed, by the way, and released by Warner Brothers. It's not yet available on DVD, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Paul Simon at his best., 10 April 2003

Even the iritating out of time clapping and outbursts of cheering from the typically American audience cannot marr this classic album. Paul Simon and his backing musicians pull out all stops to deliver classic tracks such as "She moves on", "The river" and "The coast" (the live version simply has to be heard, it beats all other versions). Someone once said Paul Simon is the voice of loneliness. He is also the voice of genius.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very enjoyable live Paul Simon CD of songs, 16 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This was from what I've heard and read one of the truly great concerts. The album captures the terrific music and brilliant atmosphere. This is definitley a Paul Simon album to buy. It is a two CD Box set and has many enjoyable songs from past albums such as Graceland,Paul Simon, Still Crazy After All These Years and many more. I also includes some brilliant songs from his days with Art Garfunkel. ex: Bridge Over Troubled Waters. I don't normally go for live albums but this is definitely an exception. If you like this I would also strongly recommend other albums such as Graceland, his greatest hits album Shining like a national guitar and his latest album You're The One. My personal favourites on this album are Old and the title track You're The One. In many ways this latest album is a return to the "old" Paul Simon.
