I'm surprised to find that I'm the first to review EN's debut album, as it's a classic example of early industrial music. That's industrial music in the same way that Throbbing Gristle is - full of harsh noises and tortured vocals. Opening track "Tanz Debil" remains a favourite for me, and sums up the whole album. The percussion consists of various hammers and pipes being beaten against other metallic objects, with the only recognisably conventional instrument being a distorted bass guitar. The vocals are almost shouted, and (for me at least) sound all the more appropriate for being sung in German, a language that lends itself well to extreme music. Despite the odd instrumentation, or perhaps because of it, there is variety in what may otherwise be quite a limited musical form. EN never really produced anything quite as aggressive as this again (although several albums of earlier material surfaced later), as they developed into something much more sophisticated, so be warned if you're more familiar with their recent output. Personally, I'd expect that if you're open minded enough to appreciate any other EN material, then you'd still love this album.
