Soon after Bonnie recorded this album, she had an operation that changed her voice forever. However, although the difference is noticeable, it's not too dramatic – her voice was always husky.

This album is filled with love songs, all but two of them written by the Scott-Wolfe partnership who, together with David Mackay, produced the album. It yielded the UK top ten hit, Lost in France, and the UK top thirty hit, More than a lover. It also contains Bonnie's cover of the classic pop-rock song, Piece of my heart.

This album may now be difficult to find but most of the tracks have been re-released on various compilations. Nevertheless, it's nice to be able to listen to Bonnie's debut album in its entirety.

"The World Starts Tonight" is Bonnie Tyler's debut album and far from her strongest but still an enjoyable listen from the RCA days. This LP contains many great songs such as the powerful title track, the catchy, "I Got So Used To Loving You" and "Let The Show Begin" as well as the beautiful ballad, "Love Of A Rolling Stone". Another highlight on this album is Bonnie's cover version of Janis Joplin's "Piece Of My Heart" which is sung to perfection by our Smokey voice of substance. TWST contains two of Bonnie's biggest hits, "Lost In France" and "More Than A Lover" so it's a surprise that this album only met with modest success in the album charts back in 1977. "Love Tangle" which I've never liked and the average "Here's Monday" are also included.
