CD Description
Although the band is named after a post-Pink Floyd Syd Barrett song, you'll find little of Barrett's acid-cracked pastoral whimsy on the debut by Los Angeles' Baby Lemonade. Instead, singer/guitarist Rusty Squeezebox and crew favour a mix of sunshiny pop hooks, riff-happy guitars and smart-alecky pop-culture-overload lyrics. Titles include "Oblivion NeutronBomb", "Brooke and the Sandman" and "Santanaclaus" stronglyrecall the mid-period work of fellow Angelenos Redd Kross. But where Redd Kross occasionally let smirky attitude get inthe way of the killer pop songs, Baby Lemonade keep the balance about right. 68% PURE IMAGINATION is a smart, funny, instantly memorable power-pop gem.
