Product Description

CD Description

As long as there are whiskey, temptation and heartache, there will be country songs to be sung, and artists like Alan Jackson to sing them. Jackson may be a pop star by this pointin his career, but he is a traditionalist at heart. The songs on EVERYTHING I LOVE, several of which he wrote himself, could easily have been sung by George Jones 20 years ago, and it is to Jackson's credit that he doesn't try to remold country music in his own image. Rather, he works within the strictures of the genre, preferring to push the envelope from the inside out.
Toward this end, Jackson employs the services of some longtime Nashville session staples, including pianist Hargus "Pig" Robbins and hotshot fiddler/mandolinist Stuart Duncan. From the existential bounce of the Tom T. Hall-penned opener, "Little Bitty", to the heart-on-a-flannel-sleeve romantic despair of the title cut, EVERYTHING I LOVE offers new perspectives on the things that have made good ol'boys laugh, cry and shoot their television sets since time immemorial.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of many great albums from Alan, 27 Dec 2003

(#1 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
There were four singles released from this album. The title track is about how all life's pleasures (including his partner) are ruining him and he's going to have to give them up. Little bitty was written by Tom T Hall and would surely have been a major hit for him had he written it in the seventies. However, he wrote it long after most people had lost interest in his music, so Tom was grateful to Alan for having a number one country hit with it and rekindling interest in his own music. Who's cheating who was originally a number one country hit for the brilliant but largely forgotten pop-country singer Charly McClain. Alan adapted it to his own style and had a top ten country hit with it. The fourth single was There goes, a song about conflicting emotions.

Buicks to the moon is one of those songs pledging love to eternity. This song and all four singles have since been released on Greatest hits 2, so if you've bought that, you may wonder why you should buy this. The reason, of course, is the other five songs. Between the devil and me is a great song about temptation. A house with no curtains is a very sad song, in which Alan describes a heartache that is there for all to see. Walk on the rocks, another sad song, is a cautionary tale about a long-term prisoner meeting his son after his release. Must've had a ball is about a hangover so it's not quite as cheerful as the title suggests, although Alan gives the impression of contentment. The final song, It's time you learned about goodbye, is a great song about a man finally not being able to take any more

If you are a fan of country music, you can't really go wrong buying any Alan Jackson album, as they are all great. While this is by no means his strongest, it is still much better than most other country singers could ever hope to record. It is the sheer consistency of his music that causes him to remain one of the hottest country singers around.

4.0 out of 5 stars Everything I love about Alan Jackson, pure country!, 28 April 2002
The truly likeable personality of Alan shines through on this professionally executed album from one of the few Nashville artists who plays trad country. Ok, some of the tunes rely on cliches and there are one or two indifferent tracks ... but so what!

For example, the little bit silly 'Little Bitty' (with echoes of 'Tall Trees'), having the delightful chorus 'Well, it's all right to be a little bitty, A little hometown or a big old city, Might as well share, Might as well smile, Life goes on for a little bitty while.'

Then there's the tongue-in-cheek title track, with Alan reflecting everything he loves (cigarettes, Jack Daniels and Caffeine), 'he's gonna have to give up, Cause everything I love is killin' me' not to mention 'House With No Curtains' about a couple who's love has got lost somewhere along the way and rueing 'You can turn out the lights in a house with no curtains, But heartache has no place to hide'..

By the time you get to the stellar pumping hits of 'Between the Devil And Me', 'Who's Cheatin' Who' and then 'There Goes' which all went on to be major hits for Alan you realise the final track 'It's Time You Learned About Good-Bye' says it all - time flies when you're having fun!
