Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The post-Notorious Duran Duran are a slightly odd proposition: neither disappearing down the plughole like Bros or New Kids On The Block, but never quite managing the commercial or critical success of a George Michael. The Wedding Album contains a number of typically Serious Artiste tricks: a collaboration with someone obscure and trendy (Milton Nascimento), a cover of something undeniably classic and credible (the Velvet Underground's "Femme Fatale") and a slightly embarrassing stab at whatever was the new(ish) movement of the time (the grunge-y "Too Much Information"). However, on the plus side, they do it better than most and the album contains both singles ("Come Undone" and in particular the top five hit "Ordinary World") and album tracks ("Love Voodoo") that, ostentatiously "adult" or not, are on a par with the glory days of "Rio" or "Save A Prayer". --Ronita Dutta

CD Description

Commonly known as "The Wedding Album" to differentiate it from their self-titled 1981 debut, 1993's DURAN DURAN was an unexpected commercial comeback for Simon LeBon, Nick Rhodes and John Taylor, spawning two hit singles, "Ordinary World" and "Come Undone", that were better than anything the band had done in nearly a decade. The rest of the album succeeds in subtly updating the classic Duran Duran sound without straying too far from their '80s chart-pop roots.
The politicised "Too Much Information" and "Sin of the City" (concerning a disaster at a unlicenced New York dance club), are surprisingly aggressive tunes, but elsewhere, "None of the Above"and "Love Voodoo" are more traditional Duran fare. The album's two biggest surprises are the duet with Tropicalia superstar Milton Nasciemento on "Breath After Breath", and the surprisingly reverent take on the Velvet Underground's "Femme Fatale".

5.0 out of 5 stars A modern type of Duran Duran, 17 Mar 2000
By A Customer
I was pleasantly surprised by the high standard of music in this album. It matches the high quality of music which Duran duran were able to churn out continuously in the 1980s. Some of the songs are best forgotten but on a whole, it is a step forward for them into the dreadful music of the 1990s. This was a promising album for them and it was a shame that they were unable to capitalise on this success in recent years (probably due to the departure of John Taylor). Come on Duran Duran, this is the new millennium and I hope that they release some more material like this soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nearly five stars, Duran Duran bounce back, 9 Nov 2008

(REAL NAME)
By 1993, it really was make or break for Duran Duran.
Fortunately, this album contains some of Duran's best work, lead single "Ordinary World" was a top ten hit on both sides of the Atlantic, with it's follow up single "Come Undone" equally sucessful.
They are both great pop/rock songs, and it wouldn't be unfair to say that those two songs alone pretty much kept Duran Duran alive in the 90's.
Duran found their feet again with this, it brought them a new generation of fans keen to explore the band for the first time, a result commerically also that sold over 6 million copies sold worldwide.
Musically, "The Wedding Album" presents Duran as a more mature band, their sound has evolved to a modern Alternative Rock band, it's pleasant listening.
It's not quite five stars, but Duran Duran were back in 1993, and almost as good as their early 80's heyday.

4.0 out of 5 stars Duran show their class, 7 May 2004
Now unlike the other reviewers, i am a loyal duran duran fan and can easily find songs of worth on every album they have made and will continue to do so.

This album marks a big step forward in durans sound, Come Undone(despite what it says in the tracklisting above - its number 6!), Ordinary World, Too Much Information, Femme Fetale, None of the above all show that the chemistry between Le Bon, Taylor, Rhodes and Cuccurullo really hits the gold here. Buy this!

Incidentally despite lack of commercial success - Medazzaland and Pop Trash are great.....the new album will be outstanding!!
