Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

This music is so fiery that merely listening to The Best of Sam & Dave will bring sweat to your brow. But the creators of such classics as "Soul Man" and "Hold On, I'm Coming" won't stand just for listening. The energy between Sam and Dave is infectious enough to propel you to your feet. Their harmonies are tight, echoed by thrilling horn riffs, bursts of guitar solos and when it's all about to explode, they settle back with a ballad like "When Something Is Wrong with My Baby" that's every bit as moving as their up-tempo tracks. This is what happens when church music goes clubbing. --Robert Gordon

5.0 out of 5 stars THE COLONEL SPREADS THE WORD, 17 Jun 2005
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Do not be lead astray by other reviews, follow the colonel in these troubling times of modern music. I am a humble man, I couldn't run a marathon, and I couldn't get a university degree. But I know about Music. The Dynamic Duo, that is Sam and Dave is beyond Music, this album is the epitomy of what is great about Soul and ultimately what is incredible about these two high Calibre individuals. This Album, whether played on the bus on the way to work, or blasted from the rooftops of an urban jungle, is a lifestyle that is as infectious and powerful as anythiung ever encountered by man. It will change your life and let you see through these troubling times. Buy the Album, Listen to the Music, Hear the Music, Love the Sound, and Love the men that are Sam and Dave.
Be Strong in these times, These words will echo through eternity, IM A SOUL MAN...........
from THE COLONEL

5.0 out of 5 stars The original Blues brothers!, 9 Jun 2003

If you have any liking at all of the best rhythm and blues and soul music, then you should already be aware of this compilation.
It is absolute gold. Sam and Dave, were simply one of the greatest musical pairings of the 60's, they served up incredible live shows and many, many brilliant songs.

For starters try, 'Blues Brother, Soul Sister', 'Hold on I'm Coming', 'Soul Man' as starting points, but you'll find yourself sticking the repeat button down for the album as the sweet soul gets under your skin.

A must buy for any music fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars A chronological hit-list from the "Double Dynamite"!, 16 Dec 1999
By A Customer
A great compilation which shows how today's Soul was influenced. It includes the hits "Soul Man" and the stomping "Hold On, I'm Comin'". By these performances, it is no wonder why crowds packed out the Stax/Volt Soul Shows back in the 60's. With Sam's high pitched singing and Dave's contrasting husky tones, the duo give their all with the occasional gospel style ad-libbing in between the lyrics. Other favourites include "Soothe Me" and "Wrap It Up". A hit in anyone's book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beware!
Beware, although this is a collection of superb tracks, it is music that was originally recorded on analog equipment meaning that it is not of the best quality. Read more
