Product Description

Synopsis

The 10th edition of his Cool Guide sizzles with new and exciting things to do in Amsterdam. Opinionated, but never irreverent, Get Lost! remains the only guide to cover Amsterdams underground culture accurately and extensively. Get Lost! leads travellers to the cheapest, funkiest and most delicious spots in town: inexpensive organic restaurants, the coolest bars and clubs, an incredible array of alternative museums, mind-expanding cafes, one-of-a-kind shops, and of course the kinkiest corners of the Red Light District. Readers trust The Cool Guide for practical information that every visitor needs - accommodation, transport, weather, etc. But they also turn to it for the lowdown on more obscure topics such as fair trade cannabis, local pirate radio, and the squat scene. As always, its printed on eco-friendly recycled paper with vegetable-based inks.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is THE GUIDE to Amsterdam!, 19 April 2002
By Derek Shields "deldeldel" (Glasgow) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Amsterdam is a city for adventures and exploration and sadly, without a little pre-planning you may find yourself going round in circles, whilst only making the occasional find. This book is the Indiana Jones of the guide book world. My only gripe is that I have been to Amsterdam twice without it, but this year will be different. Written in a style anyone in the free-minded and spirited generation will greatly appreciate - it prepares you to embark on exploring this City of Deviants with an enthusiasm and insight that is rarely found. The map in the middle pages I found was fine, easy enough to read and highlight those streets containing the dens of iniquity. If you are planning on Amsterdam this year - buy this book, but hey, buy it anyway and your alternative travel arrangements may soon be on the back burner... It is that good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thumbs up! Get lost!, 22 Feb 1999
By A Customer
This is a pretty cool book, but it's definitely for the more adventurous counter-culture types. If you want a book that tells you all about big museums, fancy hotels, nice restaurants and such, this is not for you. If you're more into the fringe element, Mr. Pauker's packed alot of cool info in this book, and you can't go wrong. I'll definitely take this book along on my next trip to Amsterdam. Joe Pauker's writing is full of slang and obscenities, so if you're an old fogey, or the puritanical sort, you definitely should avoid this book. My only complaint is - the book seems too short and my copy is already falling apart because of the poor binding. Otherwise, it's a great book that I highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, 8 Feb 2005
By kalikoo (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Been to Amsterdam twice before and can it be a bit daunting because there is so much to do and see. This book has given me lots of ideas of what to do and where to go on my next trip. I'm a Veggie and was not aware of how many eating places there were for me. Also loved all the web site info so I can check these places out before I get there, this will stop us wandering around and save loads of time so we can fit in as much as we can. The only bad point is the map, it's awful!
