5.0 out of 5 stars At Last The Authentic 'Exercises Of Lamasery'!, 23 Feb 2009
By CA DeBurgh "semketet" - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Tibetan Exercises for Rejuvenation: Gnosis and the Yantra Yoga for Long Life (Timeless Gnostic Wisdom) (Perfect Paperback)
From the publisher;

Gnosis and the Yantra Yoga for Long Life

The health and vitality of the physical body is essential for anyone who aspires towards the awakening of the consciousness. Initiated students of Tantric traditions are taught exercises called Yantra Yoga to promote health and fortitude needed for their rigorous self-development. Samael Aun Weor, a reincarnated lama from the Sacred Order of Tibet, teaches in this book a synthesized and refined sequence of Yantric exercises with profound benefits that anyone can experience. In addition, he provides a fascinating and often shocking perspective on the reality of our situation, and the tremendous urgency for us to change our ways.
Special Edition: Boxed set includes a durable reference card for use while practicing the exercises.

"I tell you, brothers and sisters, that we, the Gnostics, have precise methods in order to rejuvenate the organism and cure all sicknesses. It is unquestionable that we can learn how to heal ourselves. Each one of us can be converted into our own physician by learning how to heal ourselves without the necessity of "medicine" - lo and behold, the most beloved ideal.

"It is urgent to preserve the physical body in perfect health for many years so that we can use this precious physical vehicle for the realization of our own Inner Self." - Samael Aun Weor

Originally published in Spanish as "Ejercicios de Lamaseria" (1973).

1.0 out of 5 stars Not at all helpful, 22 July 2010
By R. Lee (Bristol, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Tibetan Exercises for Rejuvenation: Gnosis and the Yantra Yoga for Long Life (Timeless Gnostic Wisdom) (Perfect Paperback)
Samael Aun Weor is not Tibetan, nor does he make any claims to have studied or practised Tibetan Buddhism or Bon.

Rather than focussing on exercises as per the title, the emphasis is on Theosophy-derived ideas about root races, higher beings, predictions of catastrophe, claims that people live - physically - on the Sun (which apparently is not a big ball of burning gas at all), and exhortations to kill the ego. Killing the ego is claimed to be a bodhisattva ideal, more Mahayana in my view than genuinely Tibetan (i.e. Vajrayana/Tantra) which would emphasise more integration. Most off-putting is Weor's description of the 7 main chakras as including the two knees, but no heart: somewhat at odds with every other tradition I've encountered.

Given all the above, its hard to trust that the exercises, when we do get to them, have any basis in tradition, or any effectiveness above and beyond simple physical movement.

It's not actually clear whether Weor even wrote the book, or whether it was actually written without his knowledge and subsequently appropriated.

Not recommended at all I'm afraid.
