Army aviation in Ulster dates back to 1913, but this book also includes a brief history from 1878. It then looks in more detail at the period 1957 to 200, covering the connection between Northern Ireland and the post-World War II Army Air Corps.

About the Author

Guy Warner has been a regular contributor to Ulster Airmail, the journal of the Ulster Aviation Society, for eight years and has also written for Aircraft Illustrated, Air Enthusiast, Air Pictorial, Aviation Ireland and Northern Ireland Travel News. He is also co-author of Colourpoint’s In the Heart of the City: The History of Belfast’s City Airport, 1938-1998, Flying from Malone: Belfast’s First Civil Aerodrome, Belfast International Airport: Aviation at Aldergrove since 1938 and No 230 Squadron Royal Air Force. Guy is a teacher at a Belfast school, is married with two daughters and lives in Co Antrim.

Alex Boyd is a keen amateur photographer and a chance introduction to the personnel of what is now 5 Regiment Army Air Corps has since given him many opportunities to photograph the machines they fly - Lynx and Gazelle helicopters and Islander fixed-wing aircraft - all in the Northern Ireland operating environment. Alex has provided many of the photographs from his own collection, as well as selecting others from various archives and private collections, and has written detailed captions for all. He is a retired draughtsman and married with a daughter.

Army aviation in Ulster dates back to 1913, when Captain George Dawes of the Royal Flying Corps landed on the beach at Newcastle, co Down., but this book also includes a brief history from 1878. It then looks in more detail at the period 1957 to 2004, covering the connection between Northern Ireland and the post-World War II Army Air Corps. Colour and b/w photographs. Weight: 550g. Retail price is around 14 GBP
The authors have received full co-operation from the Army Air Corps and this can clearly be seen in the depth of the text and the selection of accompanying photographs. The book features a foreword by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps.
