4.0 out of 5 stars Go Visit This Place !!, 16 Nov 2003
By J T HOLLAND (Hertfordshire UK) - See all my reviews
You need to read this book while drinking italian wine and eating olives to get the full benefit - forget Tuscany, this is, as the authors say, a 'hidden gem' of a place.

This book, apart from being a very detailed and comprehensive travel guide to the region (the below Venice but above Florence part), is positively bursting with useful bits of information about everything from Micheal Schumacher and Mayor who loves John Lennon to Fellini and the biggest cherry pie in the world.

Having read about the place, I am now completely ready to visit - I was amazed to even find a guide to all the various ways the italians prepare their food.

In summary, a kind of Schott's Miscellany combined with the best of travel books on this region, but with plenty of Parma Ham and Ferraris thrown in. Lots of info and useful, easy to follow maps.
